Good story. I have it on pre-order (got it for $90 now it is $100), but I bet it will be for sale for $70 by the end of the year.
To the story: it was good. Played parts of several songs. Good promotion but maybe a couple of months early. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Just watched it. Not too impressed. Da album cood still be hot, but the 60 minutes show was not. Did they ever try to put Prince on when he was alive? I don't think so.

After hearing the snippets,I am beyond excited for the welcome 2 America album I I wasn't going to purchase the deluxe set but I will now.It doesn't come out until july,so for those of you who are on a budget like myself, that is plenty of time to save up. After all,it is PRINCE music we are talking about.Prince is still one of very few artists I will spend my hard earned money on.It is always worth it

Lots of cringe in the 60minutes item but still exciting - like following tv appearances back in the day. Morris and Shelby were awesome and the snippets definitely did the job of raising the pulse rate. Very cool exposure IMO "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

. Prince demanded absurd money for the use of his music on TV. Questlove has said this several times of the years. . At a certain point TV shows simply won't bother trying. Let's not forget that he was supposed to promote two new albums on a mornign show in 2014 and couldn't even be arsed and sent 3rd Eye Girl. That's the kind of BS that gets you "blacklisted". © Bart Van Hemelen

. Yeah, that was some grade-A BS. That would mean he'd recorded an average of 200+ unreleased songs per year on top of his released output. Yeah, that didn't happen. Hell, almost all of his songs on GB were recycled tracks from earlier years: that's not something he'd need to do if he was recording hundreds of songs each year. © Bart Van Hemelen

Agreed there’s certainly not 8000 songs in the Vault, but in regards to GB I clearly recall reading an interview with Prince in the 90s where he said that particular project was an experiment to see if he could update ‘old’ music with a new sound and that the songs were quite deliberately plucked from the Vault, most from a particular era where the Time/P rivalry was still an active thing - clearly it was all linked in his head. He also mentioned that the end of a decade seemed appropriate for a ‘cleaning up’ exercise. And come on, you know as well as the rest of us here how many songs P recorded in 88/89 that could have filled a triple of album of top notch new material in 1990. It was clearly a conscious artistic decision not to do so - fuck all to do with faith in new material etc. One thing Prince didn’t lack in the 80s was belief in his artistry.

Those tracks on GB were 'recycled' due to the project changing and Prince returning to his persona as 'the kid'. He needed earlier songs written during that period and turned to the vault. Quite a logical and reasonable choice. It doesn't imply in any way that he was short of new material. The recently leaked demos from the beginning of the GB project, illustrate what the album could've sounded like.

Yeah... Too much bull shit in this one. The 8000 songs thing is just silly, but there were also a couple of mentions about not performing the W2A album songs not being performed on the tour - which is wrong. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Also this was in the intro - "It was 2010 and Prince set out on his Welcome 2 America Tour, playing sold-out venues. He divered a mix of hits and pop anthems drawn from his 39 studio albums..." Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Welcome 2 America was played ONCE as a full rendition (New York 2010), all other times it was played as part of Dreamer. Also, the lyrics he sung in both cases are for some reason almost completely different than the studio version.
Same Page Different Book and When She Comes were played both in small clubs, and definitely not rehearsed, and certainly they were not part of a set of songs that band members are given as "hey we're going on tour, we're playing this set of songs".
Hot Summer was just a chorus with Prince playing guitar. Check The Record was played by 3rdEyeGirl, not the NPG.
So, what they said is actually true.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I really like the sound of Born 2 Die and Check The Record. I got a Feel Better Feel Good Feel Wonderful vibe from Check the record. Shame there weren't a few more snippets of songs.

. Which would be him dipping into the vault, because when you look at this list it is rather clear that 1990 wasn't exactly a great year. © Bart Van Hemelen
