would prince have taken part in a Verzuz?

Watching the recent Verzuz between EWF and the isley brothers, which is so good I actually couldnt believe it, even if they weren't allowed to bring the full bands out, and the DJ had a weird sense of chronology, but it made me wonder if prince would have done a verzuz.

Only thing is idk who he would have done it with/against?

Doubtful he would. But as the show gains momentum, I wouldn't be surprised if the Estate somehow got in on it. Revolution vs NPG maybe? Doubtful, but wouldn't be surprised either.

Oooooh revolution vs npg! That would be very cool.

And a prince vs jam n Lewis would have been amazing. Good call.

Jam n Lewis were a force in their prime

Exactly.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Stevie W did a versuz:

.

One of the best tributes I've read of 'ol boy:

Stevie Wonder: Prince 'To...ling Stone

.

"If Michael was the King of Pop, Prince should be the Emperor. Prince fought for his artistic freedom. He didn’t allow anyone or anything to get in his way. By following his own path, Prince took music to a whole other place, like the Beatles did. He wanted to change the way things were, like Marvin Gaye did. When you do that, you have to be very sure of yourself.

That spirit that drove him gave us an incredible reservoir of music. He loved funk, so he really needed to know how to make things funky. He loved jazz, so he needed to break down what made things truly swing. If Prince wanted to talk about love and sex, he got really into that – deep. And he made us see and feel it all with him. In fact, I’m trying to figure out which child of mine was born because of listening to Prince."

.

"Prince’s music was so picturesque that even I could see it. I could see his boss Mr. McGee, who thought Prince was never going to be shit. I could see Old Man Johnson’s farm. I could feel that “Purple Rain” too. Prince’s songs were that vivid, the images were that strong. I think I related to the way Prince saw things because we both grew up in the Midwest, where we met all kinds of people and had a great spectrum from which to learn. We both grew up hearing blues, rock & roll, jazz and gospel, and found the value in it all."

.

Surprised this is being supported by Timbaland... but guess a man's gotta eat.

Funkeman

It would have to have been a Prince Vs Prince type thing for him to have done it.

Prince would not have done one with MJ

He said he didn't like or understand the comparison, that he was an AX man and would prefer to be compared to other AX men

I hope he wouldn't have. They're bloody stupid things with people usually singing over their tracks, original vocals intact. It's like a really shit PA.

He did love a battle, or at least the idea of one. There’s no way in hell he would have done it in it’s current incarnation. Maybe if it were a live music battle. Though his sampler set did sometimes feel like a Prince v. Prince.
