Albumism: Prince and The Revolution’s ‘Parade’ Turns 35 | Anniversary Retrospective

This is a detailed and informative article that provides useful context about Parade's creation and it's relationship to Under The Cherry Moon, particularly for younger fans like me (I was born later on in 1986) who do not remember or were not alive at the time of Parade's release.

"A transportive and imaginative musical paradiso, Parade is where Prince stepped into the full breadth of his abilities to shoulder his dichotomous appetites for uncompromising art and competitive commerce. Further, the album is a rare snapshot of this enigmatic man at his most joyful and curious—traits to gradually recede from his subsequent output. A seminal body of work in need of serious reappraisal, Parade is still waiting for its moment to shine."

Ah, I remember walking to the local record shop, Sounds Unreal, to get the Kiss single on the day of release. When Parade was released, a friend with a car took me to another town to get it. GOOD TIMES...

PARADE's moment to shine????

When did it stop shining?

That's a Prince Top 5 album in just about everyone's book.

Thanks for sharing this enjoyable article. Parade certainly deserves a reappraisal in the mainstream press for being one of his very best albums. Personally, Parade is one of my favorite and most played albums ever. I never tire of it.

.

You must not have read many people's books.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Nice tribute. Still my favorite Prince album. Would love for it to get the SDE treatment just for 12"s and UTCM songs that don't appear on the album, but I gotta feeling that's not the estate's priority anytime soon and, if so, I get it...

This album set the fact straight in Prince's oeuvre so far, that he never ever would deliver the same album, sound or concept for the rest of his life.

To me, ATWIAD still was closer to PR.

This album made you forget everything.

I remember when i took the train to school, and on some damn transitor radio (that someone had close to me - too loud), I was happy to hear that Prince cut his hair short,

and released a new single simply called 'Kiss', unlike anything else he had released before.

And then I heard the over modulated first tones of the song...

Those were the 'moments' in my young man's life that changed a great part of me.

I teared up. I was in HS. Cut class for the day to go buy this and listen to it with my best friends. This brings back so many memories.

Best final 3 songs ending to an album...Kiss, Anotherloverholenyohead, Sometimes It Snows In April.
There may or may not be something coming!
