wow..I agree with Bart..
Uninspired is right on...i really wonder what drives these releases. Sales must be good enough to justify more releases....
All they'd have to do is put a few out takes on a 2nd disc OR remaster the album for me to buy.
LOVE THIS ALBUM. | |

I enjoyed Funkenberry’s interview with Stephen Hill (3 hours). He had some funny stories. Thanks for sharing

The lawsuit ended a while ago, with the writing credits going to the Italian musicians, at least with any Italian distribution of the album. The last distribution of the album in Italy was in 1995

guys i'm being FACETIOUS it will probably not be FIFTY us dollars, but my point is that i'm sure it will be DRASTICALLY overpriced, realistically i'm thinking 30

It might even get more expensive than that if you don't have a record store in your area or aren't willing to play the survival-of-the-fittest game to get lay hands on a copy. Music distribution failure.

I bought the Crystal Ball long box CD set, including the Truth for $15. I won't be buying this! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I absolutely loathe Record Store Day. Such a fucking hack rip-off scheme.
All the other reissues have been around £35 (example, Planet Earth) on vinyl here in the UK, so I see no reason why this one would be any cheaper. Will probably be more expensive than that due to RSD.. and of course, Prince Tax.
But I will still be buying it. Can't wait to have Prince's entire catalogue on vinyl. Woohoo!

I assume they will not fix the sound of this album, as it is one of the few 90s albums that needs remastering as it is too loud, by Prince's own fault though. Still, I would buy it. I think my mom paid over $40.00 for the set back in the day to get it for me. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I really don't understand why a mod decided to start their own thread and then make it a sticky when there is an existing thread, but such are the ways of the Org: https://prince.org/msg/7/466332 © Bart Van Hemelen

- Read again: 'considdering only a few thousand copies will be sold.' And for your information, yes it's a 'bloody RSD release'. And that's barely ever 'noteworthy stuff'. Though I'm a vinyl lover, I never was a fan of RSD anyway. I'm not one of those who collect every fart either. But this 'The truth' album I personally would like to have on vinyl. That horrible CB plastic round jewell case with it's only CD version and barely any artwork... - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. +1. Yes, I'm also really looking forward to get the stand-alone-release of The Truth. I have the Crystal Ball set both in the NPGMC and the retail layout, but I really appreciate The Truth getting its own release. I also found the vinyl release of One Nite Alone from last year really great. These acoustic sets sound even more intimate on vinyl. So, yes, of course there is a market for this.

. There is a market for plenty of things, but considering that this is the first sign of life from the Estate in over six months (and for now this is still a rumor, though one substantiated by some evidence), the fact that this is things we already have makes it pointless. . There is a fucking vault. Give us unreleased stuff every four months instead of delivering an unsatisfactory SDE once a year and a bunch of re-releases which only exist because Prince was an incompetent businessman who proved over and over how lucky we were that WBR kept shit in print. © Bart Van Hemelen

I think it's a wasted opportunity to not release something special for RSD. More people are willing to pay for Rave unto the joy fantastic 1989 or Roadhouse garden for example rather than paying for albums we already have like The Truth. Welcome 2 The Dawn

Bart, it was you that pointed out many a time in the past that Sony only has the rights to re-release stuff that was already released from the Emancipation era up to Prince's passing. So it should not come as a surprise that Sony executes the rights they have obtained by the Estate. As they have done with wonderful vinyl re-issues in the past.
Sony are not the ones that are authorized for releases coming from the "fucking vault".

. I know this is a wild idea but -- hear me out, just imagine this -- how about WARNERS would do an RSD release? An actual worthwhile one, not a "hey here's a facsimile of the utterly pointless original UK vinyl release of 1999 WITH LESSS SONGS". © Bart Van Hemelen

- And with that I have to fully agree. Every word of it. - Mind you there are a lot of fans who would love to have every live show t be officialy released... for which i couldn't care less. - Oh yeah there's one or two : 'Het Paard Van Troje', untouched, unchanged but remastered. That i'd like. And the Rolling Stones support act show in pristine quality; shows that are relevant in his oeuvre. -

I have the original (x2) and will likely purchase the RSD release. I really like this album. The song “The Truth” is more relevant than EVER in these crazy, ‘woke’ times. Wonder what P would think about all of this shenanigans... "I like to watch."
