I wonder if Prince continued to believe in the Devil as he matured and let go of some of the JW dogma?

It just seems, to me, that believing in the Devil (Satan) is something an adult would outgrow as it is seems to be more a symbol of our darker instincts, not a real entity.

Let's be just a bit careful not to turn this into a full on religious debate.

You should read some of Prince's latter interviews. Yes he believed in God, and Satan.

I agree.

That scene that Susan Rogers walked into at Paisley Park that night seemed a bit scary lol

Really? Can you elaborate on what they said? I can respect it if the answer is no.

Some people say, when hi on certain things, the veil between the natural and spiritual world is 'not as thick'

I mean, I sorta said it. He was high on X (apparently Yellow Smiley was there, too), and he thought he saw the devil. He took it as an omen about The Black Album. That's why he always thought it was born in evil.

ok, I thought there was more detail.

.

Yellow Smiley offers me X

I know he believed in God, but Satan? In his later years? I haven't seen all of his later interviews but

that belief seems kind of ?? for his mature self who read as widely as he did.

I know he believed in Satan when he was a young man.

Anyway, I don't need to pursue this line of thought.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

X is the toxic product produced by the Joker in the Batman movie.
Yellow Smiley is the Joker.

Of course there is double meaning.

The truth of The Black Album folklore isn't that Prince saw God. He was on X (which we knew) and thought he saw the devil.

He literally saw his own reflection on the album cover that was still freshly wrapped in cellophane while the music blasted through the club speakers!

Anyone else here ever trip before?

One small guilty thought within those circumstances would freak anyone out and make them rewind a bit, methinks.

But, yeah, the lyric is,

"eye no there is a heaven and a hell"

lyric edit

Maybe off-topic, but why continue to engage in behaviors that would not amuse God?

Those are your words. Not what I said or implied. Not saying it's not true, but it wasn't part of the story I was told.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Spooky was I think relatively clearly his own view of the devil, but I don't think he ever really left the music, he just got a less starring role. He was a religous man throughout his life so you could say that songs such as HAD U which are negative in tone bear some hallmark of spooky electric.

I love lovesexy and don't raze the black album that highly at all. It was very exciting to pick up a copy of when it was made available but trading up spooky for positivity was in every way, good
