We talked about this last month. What most people have seen is the edited version which makes Prince look less collaborative.

In the unedited, real version he is checking in frequently w/Tom Petty~very conscious of his role.

(not grand-standing)

.

Where can we see this version, please?

It was the Jonathan Demme version we had talked about. There was a link here 1-2 months ago.

While I agree that Prince totally shredded it, I also notice at one point towards the end of the solo that Petty gives a somewhat nasty look to Prince like he's trying to convey 'Enough already!' to Prince. I've watched the video numerous times trying to talk myself out of what I'm seeing but each time I watch it seems more and more obvious to me.

I think Petty was smirking a bit after the 'stage fall'

The edited version makes Prince look showy, the REAL version shows Prince being very collaborative.

Prince changed nothing about the "Guitar World" in his entire 57 years on Earth, much less that one night. Prince is great, no doubt, but he brought nothing new to the guitar. Jimi Hendrix and Edward Van Halen changed the way people played guitar. Their impact was enormous and immediate. Prince wrote some great songs and displayed great musicianship while performing them live and in the studio. He didn't change guitar any more than Stevie Wonder did. No hate here, just facts. David Bowie didn't change the "Guitar World" either and I love him, too.

Prince is my favourite guitarist but I co-sign to this.

Steak i'm 200% with you. When you read a post saying that Prince changed guitar world you just can't help not to laugh. It only proves that people who say that they don't listen to other guitar players.

Even though i love Prince i have to be honest and say that Prince was jut a decent rock guitarist.nothing more than that.

He was very expressive in his performance but as a guitarist nothing special.

This guy for example is like 100 times better on guitar in terms of soul and technique https://www.youtube.com/w...0XNBq-vPXo and you think Prince was a great rhythm guitar? well think again https://www.youtube.com/w...mp;t=1444s (check from 14 min 30 sec)

Some of you guys really need to take your head out of Prince's booty and listen to some great guitar players

Honestly, I have to agree, up to one small detail...

Prince actually took ''the funk on guitar'' a few notches further up imho.

But through his personal style and guitar skills, he basically was a fantastic unique writer and arranger, wether it was guitar or on any other instrument.

Unlike most greats out there alive or gone.

Thank you.

Now I finally did see the difference with the unedited version, and indeed,

he checked Tom Petty each time very carefully and with a respectful smile.

Changes at least my perspective on this wonderful performance.

Now it makes more sense.

Thank you so much for clearing that out. smile
