Big City Boy, 18&over and other would disagree.

I would say that Prince was always more of a spoken word artist, than a rapper. I would love a full album in the style of Sexy MF

...except EVE.

Is surprising that artists of the calibre of Chuck D & Q-TIP didn't live up to their potential though. Sometimes, it's the material you have to work with, I guess...

Quick story. I was a DJ in the 90s and 2000s. Still dabble. I played "The Good Life" (Big City Remix) during a party. It was a hip-hop crowd. Everyone kept coming to me asking who it was and we're shocked when I told them it was Prince. They loved it. A lot of his other rapping attempts were mediocre, save for MAYBE "Sexy MF" because of his flow riding the groove like James Brown. But even that's pushing it. I did enjoy "Why Should Eye Do This When Eye Can Do That", though.

The Big City Remix is exactly the example I was gonna mention (along with Days of Wild).

Always loved that line "Keep my Dollars f*ching, hope they have a son".

In general though, it wasn't his forte.

Yes, that was obvious in Chocolate Box. He should have picked a current big name to do the rap, because Prince was able to deliver it.
