Spooky Electric in purple music

Who/what/why is Spooky Electic, did Spooky disappear after 1989?
Was Spooky in Graffiti Bridge?

Just 'fleshing' the concept out in Prince music

.

.

discussing Camille here
“There was a boy named Camille” — Exploring Prince’s Elusive Alter-Ego

.

.

.

Camille mustered
all the hate that he was able.

Hate 4 the ones who ever doubted his game.

Hate 4 the ones who ever doubted his name.

"Tis nobody funkier -- let the Black Album fly."

Spooky Electric was talking, Camille started 2 cry.

Tricked.
A fool he had been.

In the lowest utmostest.

He had allowed
the dark side of him 2 create something evil.

2 Nigs United
4 West Compton.

Camille and his ego.

Bob George.

Why?

Seriously? Spooky Electric is the devil.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I know who Spooky is, I'm just pulling the discussion from the Camille thread so not to derail it, and just fleshing out how Prince put it in the lyrics. It is never as simple as SE is the devil in Purple Music, or we can just read bible text...

In every man's life there will be a hang-up
A whirlwind designed to slow you down
It cuts like a knife and tries to get in you
This Spooky Electric sound
Give up if you want to and all is lost
Spooky Electric will be your boss"
Call People magazine, Rolling Stone
Call your next of kin, 'cause your ass is gone
He's got a 57 mag with the price tag still on the side
Cuzzin' when Spooky say dead, you better say died
Or you can fly high right by Spooky and all that he crawls for
Spooky and all that he crawls for
Don't kiss the beast

to believe in God, is to believe in the Devil...the concept if duality appears over and over throughout Prince's career and life

the devil is the embodiment of evil and Prince definitely believed in evil, so …

Spooky Electric tells me to steal spring onions when I go shopping & I always add a few extras from another bunch to mine.

I know it's stealing & wrong but it's Spooky's fault, he's my naughty/bad side within & quite persuasive.

I reckon we've all got a little Spooky Electric sitting on our shoulder, whispering in our ear from time to time, it just depends on what he's saying & how much you choose to listen to him.

In my case it's thieving salad from the local supermarket, that's as far as I'd go & I do enjoy a nice salad.

Spooky Electric is obviously the devil, but he's been checked by the end of "Positivity." The character is mentioned in the song, and Prince is pleading, "Hold on to your soul, ya gotta long way to go."

Prince leaves you on a positive note, but the warning that the devil is always trying to bring someone down is just as important. Prince really took that Gemini good vs. evil right through Batman and it's an interesting story he's tried to tell. I think it sorta bled into Graffiti Bridge's story a bit, but it was gone by the time Diamonds and Pearls rolled out.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

it definately is an interesting arch

Spooky Electric must die. Die in the hearts of all who
want love. Die in the hearts of men who want change.
Die in the bodies of women who want babies that will grow up
with a New Power Soul.

Yeah he actually did

He's talk about the devil and evil prior to Spooky Electric of course

But it was around the PR period into ATWIAD that he characterized the Devil.

Then by the Parade era the Devil expression seemed much like Spooky Electric.

I always had images of Lucifer / the Devil from 1940 50s art nouveau paintings

I would rather drink 6 razor blades
Razor blades from a paper cup
He can't understand, I say 2 tough
It's just that I've seen the future
And boy it's rough

The truth of The Black Album folklore isn't that Prince saw God. He was on X (which we knew) and thought he saw the devil.

And I know that because someone extremely close to him at the time told me that. So did he believe in the devil? Yeah, I believed he believed in some sort of manifestation of evil.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

No, I enjoy, encourage and participate in the thread to help the thread along

I didn't go in there telling people "we've already discussed this before" posting a bunch of past links
There is more information about Camille now. There is more about Spooky Electric

I agree.

That scene that Susan Rogers walked into at Paisley Park that night seemed a bit scary lol

Really? Can you elaborate on what they said? I can respect it if the answer is no.

Some people say, when hi on certain things, the veil between the natural and spiritual world is 'not as thick'

I mean, I sorta said it. He was high on X (apparently Yellow Smiley was there, too), and he thought he saw the devil. He took it as an omen about The Black Album. That's why he always thought it was born in evil.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
