Under Purple Music

I listen to Prince music/Proteges etc exclusive from other music all the time

Mine is similar..."Purple & Camp" and they are all before "A"

Oh, BTW, the SOTT 'book' is of course the exception...

It does not fit in the usual spots.

It does not contain the usual stuff as intended for the other spot.

So it is in limbo.

Pretty much my entire Prince collection has been uploaded to Apple's iTunes Music Library, bootlegs included.

I've changed the GENRE on ALL of it to PURPLE MUSIC.

I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

That's right. I gave it a special place in my apartment.

For Prince, his CDs are the only ones that still have cases and are on a shelf. Everyone else is stored in a CD binder or was donated long ago.

Prince vinyl records are in a separate area from the rest of my records.

Mp3 albums are, uh, all on my hard drive with everything else. Alphabetical.

If you will, so will I

I still need to do it for my whole vinyl collection, but for Prince, I keep everything together in crates by order of release, including side projects as part of a broader 'Prince' category. So Vanity 6 and What Time Is It? are with 1999, while 1-800-NEW-FUNK is with the other 1994 releases like TMBGITW, Come etc.

I decided to do it according to album
Just to make things difficult
So parade goes in pop and rock
For you goes in soul and rnb
Though I now think it's all just ridiculous and will prob file all prince in pop
Vinyl is great but cumbersome!

I only recently did it but the plan after separating into genre is to put them into alphabetical order!

assuming you have a collection that isnt just prince, and paisley park/npg artists, do you put prince in pop, rock, soul, funk, what?

i initially started putting his records in pop/rock, but then thought he started out as an R&B artist, so maybe everything should be in there - that was his musical root after all.

but it doesnt really fit that well, and im not giving him a section all of his own razz

so for me, hes just going in R&B.

i think he would be cool with that.

ultimately, whatever the the music, prince was an R&B vocalist. so that seems the most appropriate place to file his music.

Have U learned anything from this thread?

Under my music files I have a whole seperate directory called "O+>".

For genre, I take a nod from Prince and tag all PrincePaisley material as "Whatever".
