If Diamonds and Pearls is the next super deluxe edition... ...will you give Jughead another chance?
It will be re-mastered, after all. |

I never hated Jughead. I do think it's the low point of the album however. I like Prince's rap. Personally I would have kept Horny Pony on the album and made Jughead the b side. |

I say we give Jughead another chance!
I think it's time to bust somethin' sleazy, but cool and easy, right?
Maybe Jughead’s just the ticket?
It’s got lots of attitude, coast to coast’n. [Edited 3/2/21 11:30am]

I've often wondered why he was making "new dance commercials". I don't recall ever seeing a dance commercial. |

good point perhaps there are more in the vault, like 'new dance commercial' take 3 & 4 etc.

What can we expect out of the Vault for this one?
Unpopular opinion, but I'm hoping there's an alternative arrangement of the title song without the lower octave intro.
Obviously we're getting 4 versions of Work That Fat, including one with tin drums and human beat box.
What's going to leak first, Gett Off's Cousin or Oobey Doop?

No.
It would actually not be a bad idea, if they removed it. |

I'm going to do a slow fade DJ mix of Housequake to Jughead so you all get your medicine. |

NOPE! And I'm taking the remasters, ripping them lossless, and editing Tony M. the fuck out of it just like I've done before. So I can have a remastered D&P, Tony-less. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

Will the bebop version of Hey Hannegan from this era finally see the light of day. Holy grail for me.
I love Jughead - but an instrumental wouldn’t go amiss. Comin str8 outta Preston... |

I really think a remastered D&P at this stage would be a mistake. |

Why would it be a mistake?
The album is unpopular in the fanbase and even though it sold well at the time, is not exactly fondly remembered by critics or the public. |

Agreed to an extent...
However, no one but the hardcore buy these Super Deluxe Editions at the best of times. I know several people who enjoy SOTT a lot but none of them were bothered with the Super Deluxe.
I figure if they drum up a bit of publicity for it representing Prince as a "black artist" [vs. the Revolution guy who is seen as a "white artist" (look, just read any thread on here whenever the Revolution are mentioned)] it could sit well with current popular media trends about representation and "fierce, fearless, unapologetic blackness."
And if you think I sound cynical about this kind of thing you'd be correct, but I still recognise it as real.

It would be interesting to discuss if this album and the npg really won him back a bigger black audience. I dont think he ever lost it tbh bit I guess he was worried he might look like was losing it.
Either way, its not like this sounded like rnb of the time. It was still prince doing prince. Just differently.
But I dont think he really convinced anyone that he was in sync with black pop like he was a decade earlier. That moment had passed. And hey, idk I'd if he needed to.
Someone should have just said, prince, do you. Please! Lol |

Fairly sure Prince thought 20ten was worth Purple Rain money and Purple Rain levels of success as well, nevermind Diamonds and Pearls.
I know what you're getting at, I may be way off with what i'm saying. Considering this was very much a commercial effort he was clearly going for "white" pop success with it. Oh well, guess I just lost my pitch for the reissue

How can you distinct black music vs white music ? How thin or thick is that line ? The only genres I can really distinct black from white music is delta blues vs country music. But even in country there are great black artists. It's difficult to make that difference. |

You're not wrong but both radio and MTV found a way for years. |

i guess thats my point
yeah, he had a new 90% black band
but he was also going for the big pop hits more than he had done since 84 more or less
so a pretty mixed album
hardly a 'back to funk and rnb!' album. |

You're not wrong but both radio and MTV found a way for years. Sure but that was only based on skin color of the artist and not the type of music. |
