I KNOW I ASKED NOT TOO LONG AGO...BUT NOW THAT THIS NEW BOOK IS OUT HELLO PEOPLE. I got some good feedback when I asked "which Prince book official or non" is a fan MUST have.
Alot of folks replied with DMSR as the best so far. Now that this "rise and fall" book is out, should I go for that or get the DMSR? THANX

I'm getting the impression that there's an incestuous link between DMSR and the recent "Possessed" book, as a lot of the interviews and research for "Possessed" seems to come from Per Nilssen's work, and a lot of what I'm reading in "Possessed" parrots what I've read in DMSR and other books by Nilssen/Uptown...having said that, if you're more into the musical aspects of Prince's "glory days", you'll like DMSR...if you're more into the dish and the dirt, "Possessed" seems to be scratching that itch quite well (though there's more than enough gossip in DMSR to go around).

Even though I haven't read the new book, I would suggest you get both.
I had to fork out quite a lot for copy of Dave Hill's 'A Pop Life' recently because I never got 'round to buying it when it was first released. Personally speaking I enjoy reading about Prince in print (especially when the sources aren't tabloid trash). Anyway, anything remotley connected to the UPTOWN team is worth a look. UPTOWN and bootlegs is what keeps me interested.

A lot of Possessed comes from the same sources, since I think Alex had access to Per's research. It says so in the book doesn't it, or the author said it somewhere, in an interview maybe. He was their lawyer for the case against whatshisface.

hmmm...not sure how you came to that conclusion.
dmsr's a great book...and like anxiety said, does center more on the music. possessed, however, has a fabulous unreleased track-ography (if you'll pardon my silliness), and also talks about the music. even the "gossipy" stuff is all approached from the viewpoint of how it affected the music. that being said, if yer a sheep then possessed will likely make yer blood boil.
