Prince: The Symbol of Musicology 3-in-1 Lego set needs your support to become reality

I’ve designed a Lego set. Based on Prince. And I need your vote of support to get it made.

Based on my 9-year-old’s prompting, it’s a 3-in-1 set using the symbol - it can be hung as wall art, used as a concert stage with a full band of minifigures, or used as his iconic symbol-shaped guitar. And it could be made into an official set. Which, let’s face it, would make me a pretty cool dad for my three Lego-loving kids.

To be considered for release by the Lego design team, it needs 10,000 votes of support. And that’s no small feat. But those 10,000 votes come in increments. The first hurdle is to get 100 votes in the next 60 days. That will buy me a year to reach 1,000 votes, then another 6 months to reach 5,000, then another 6 months to reach 10,000. It’s clearly a long shot. But it’s definitely possible if enough people vote and share.

To vote, you need a Lego.com account. It only takes 60 seconds or so to set one up, and you can do it directly on https://ideas.lego.com/ - just click on log-in and follow the link to create an account. Then vote for the set at: https://ideas.lego.com/pr...3467156a5b

And of course, sharing is easy. Please share widely and with anyone you know who likes Lego or Prince. My gratitude to any of you who take the time to support this either by voting or sharing!

That is awesome! I'd buy that for my kids. My youngest is already sneaking Prince lyrics into his primary school essays.

You got my support!

May I suggest an idea - have different clipable hair for the prince mini-figure - eg punkfunk, bouffon, perma80's, parade, nude tour, hilda odgen, afro etc etc.

Hate to be the one - but I'm assuming the estate is in some way involved? This isn't gonna fly without them. I like the set but the symbol and the images on the picks would all be copyrighted, no? yes

There seems to be more than one "exclusive piece" in this model, no?

Still, it's fantastic!!!

The problem is Lego can't even make it based on votes alone even if they wanted to. It requires collaborating with the estate and licensing.

Great idea, 80's afro and nude tour for the musicology tour.

I read about this yesterday in a FB group and from what I understand, the Estate is aware of this endeavor. Perhaps, if the required number of votes is received, indicating there is a definite public interest, going forward, the legalities will be worked out.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I spent the entire summer building Lego castles, spaceships and Bat mobiles with my grandkids. I definitely need this in my life. Vote and share EVERYWHERE!

Lego and the Estate would be better off just collaborating instead and they should!

They have to know people like me are voting that have zero intentions of buying a Lego kit.

It looks like this is what the Lego Ideas contest is full of though, and then Lego is magically supposed to get licensing for all these pop culture submissions. Doesn't look like they have any for sale yet.

It will only be on sale if Lego chooses to after it gets 10,000 votes. It's well off the vote target as of now.

10,000 votes doesn't actually matter.

Fantastic work. Ive just voted, so now 474. Come on people. It takes 3 minutes to register.

I'm sure buyers would include casual Prince fans and general music fans. The market is potentially huge.

Reminds me of being at a Lego fair with my son, there was a build area where I put together the symbol. Took ages to get the curves right smile

Thanks all for the support! Yes, I made the Estate aware of this before submission, and they acknowledged it. I didn't want to spend time pushing this to get 10,000 votes if the Estate wouldn't want this made. But Lego had already cleared the IP for the Lego Ideas format so due diligence was done before I created this build.

The comment about them not having any sets for sale based on fan's submissions is incorrect. There have been more than 30. Check them out here: https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Ideas. Included is a Beatles set and many many others based on existing IPs (Friends, Big Bang Theory, Flintsones, Tron, Voltron, Doctor Who, Wall-E, NASA, Back To The Future, Ghostbusters, and more...). So this is certainly possible.

Exclusive pieces is not a factor - these are allowed in submissions now. But I didn't create any new pieces; only printed tiles or existing pieces in colors they haven't been available in before (albeit existing Lego colors).

10,000 votes of support is a lot - but this is why they give 2+ years to reach that target. This one is five days in, so we have a long way to go. I'm grateful for all your support, and if you know any ways to help spread the word - especially in Lego communities where people already have accounts and can easily vote - that would be wonderful.

Thanks again!

I don't see where suggesting a different, more accurate and dynamic color scheme is being negative; assuming you're referring to my comment. I'd personally mix in a little more purple and black to give it some snap/contrast.

I think it's really cool. Not sure how many 10 year old kids will be into it but I'd buy one.

Well it seems probate is coming to an end by tbe beginning of next year so there may be hope to bring the idea to the estate's attention. Expanding to other versions. Who knows?

PliablyPurple

One of the worst stages ever designed. If the rest of the band zoomed their performances, it may have been more intimate. But for a Lego Set, way cool. Love it!

TEMP-_Road_to_777.png

Also, quick note: Watching someone supporting my LEGO Ideas project yesterday, we realized that it's easy to think your vote has been counted a few times in the process, but it ONLY COUNTS if you've either created an account or logged in with an existing account.

I absolutely appreciate all your support whether you vote or not, but if you did vote, would you mind checking to make sure your vote counted? You can check by logging in to your account (or creating one if you don't have one yet), and then visiting my project page (https://ideas.lego.com/pr...3467156a5b) to hit the "support" button - once it says "supported" your vote has been counted! We just passed 700 supporters - I'd love to get to 777 in the next few days, and 1,000 in the next month. Every vote matters - feel free to share with anyone you think would be interested!

That's kind of neat! What I would like to know is how many of the regular-design Lego peices it could take to make a decent-looking Symbol.
