"Turn Me Loose" Leno background inspiration
I've always been low-key obsessed with the background used for his performance of "Turn Me Loose" on Leno's show in 2008. Originally I thought it had a kind of '70s blaxploitation vibe to it but it turns out to be an amalgam of the two posters for the 1960's 'Flint' movies: a Bond parody that was also heavily reference for the Austin Powers series.
From the 'Our Man Flint' poster, the figures on the left, the background eye and the seated woman in pink all made it onto Prince's version. Although seated here, Flint is dressed in black and holding a gun, as Prince is.
From the 'In Like Flint' poster, the woman in the yellow chair has been reinterpreted and the running women to the right have been incorporated into Prince's version.
I hadn't seen these references discussed before. We know that Prince was a big film fan, as well as having an off-beat sense of humour, so maybe these were just a couple of his favourite mooovies that he decided to pay tribute to?

The OP is correct: it's a one-off piece of artwork created by Sam Jennings for Prince's 2007 shows at the Roosevelt Hotel in LA, inspired by the Flint movie posters. It was never intended for use as cover art for any project. ā€ˇhttps://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast

I want 2 believe Perhaps only the faithful are able to perceive the existence of Prince's unreleased 2008 F.U.N.K album and only those believers will be rewarded with it when it arrives.
