So why do you all think there has been such a delay in the Estate releasing anything this year? Getting frustrated with the lack of any news/announcements from the Estate. I am grateful for SOTT SDE. But I’m ready for the next thing. Any ideas on what the deal is? COVID-19? I mean we had COVID last year and we still got Sony reissues, Prince & the Revolution Live and the wonderful SOTT SDE. So what’s the hold up? | |

It s been exactly one year ( 02/04/2020) the last Sony reissues have been announced. And they were released 3 months and a half after. So I m not expecting something from Sony this year. As long as the pandemic will run ( and were talking about years ), there won't be any more physical releases from Sony. Considering the trolling backlash here about the D&P supposedly re release, I think WB is not in a hurry. |

Yes, and it s the first time since they announced Piano and Mic 83 than there is more than 2 months between a release snd an official announcement of a new release. SOTT deluxe was officially announced 06/25/2020, so that more than 7 months ago. So saying " We re only in February, calm down" doesn't translate very well the situation here. So if something is released, it needs to be officially announced at least three months before. So, as of now, nothing before mid - may, that s for sure. But we all know that the weeks preceding official announcement, we have leaks of something ( tracklist, people involved, number of discs, etc.). And that's clearly not the case here with D&PP. So the project doesn't seem so advanced than that. |

By the way, it can't be released in April by now. The estate always needed 3 months after official announcement - it s always delayed. |

They're not Prince, releasing 2-3 albums a week. I just watched Love Jones couldn't help it. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Fact is, none of us knows anything.
So saying there's definitely nothing coming from Sony this year is as much empty speculation as saying there's something coming next week....
We. Don't. Know.
Of course there's issues caused by the pandemic. Of course there's issues based on the 'handover' from Warners to Sony. Of course whoever is able will want to get material out as regularly as possible, to capitalise on their assets. Of course we'll know as soon as it's possible for whoever it is to let us know.

I for one would love a physical Crystal Ball reissue.
I’m also happy for a D&P SDE. With that said the Parade era vault tracks would be superb! I don’t know why we couldn’t have Parade SDE in the Spring and D&P SDE in the Fall. If the Estate does not start releasing at a quicker rate they’re gonna lose their target fanbase because we’ll either be dead or be suffering from Alzheimer’s. They could at least remaster the 80’s albums so there’s better sound and give us SDE versions later. The Greatest Hits albums desperately need remastering like the albums. I know many of you aren’t excited about hits compilations but they help bring in new listeners. Now you can’t even buy the hits albums digitally, but you can stream them which makes no sense. There’s so much to be released that they are just sitting on. They could at least give us a digital remastered w/ bonus tracks of The Time and Vanity 6. The latter has been out of print for years and “Nasty Girl” is a classic hit. Lots of other 80’s R&B groups have digital remasters with bonus tracks (ie Mtume, Midnight Star). The Live show releases would be nice as well. Like I said I don’t want to be old before they decide to do some REALLY cool stuff with Prince’s Legacy. Say what you will but nevertheless : 2019 : 3 waves of Sony releases 2 WB releases 2020 : 1 wave of Sony release 1 WB release As of February 7th 2021 : Sony : more than a year without a new release annnounced WB : 7 months and a half without anew release announcement. They need to hurry up and make some kind of announcement because tax refund time is approaching and I need to know if it is something good before I start spending that money on something else. Those deluxe editions aren't cheap and I don't have that kind of money laying around to just instantly spend at random. And I've done got too old to turn tricks on the corner.
