It's difficult to know to what you are referring based on what you've said.

The whole show circulates. My guess is that you are listening to Sabotage's release of the song (from an audience cassette tape recording).

Questlove played a clip of the soundboard recording of this song during one of his DJ sets, it's probably that you've heard.

Ah yes - a soundboard of the song featured in one of his streamed 'lockdown' sessions from April, last year - but not thought to be the 9 March 1981 show at Sam's.

Featured on the Hard 2 Get volume 9: indeed from Sam's.

Have you compared the two recordings (i.e. previously circulating recording from Sam's to that played last year?)

I mean, the soundboard version is on YouTube. It's very clearly a soundboard recording.

I was asking Ramzoo.

The soundboard recording might have been labelled as from 'Sam's '81', but I am asking if that recording has been compared to the audience recording attributed to 9 March 1981 to confirm that they are simply different recordings (one soundboard, one audience) of the same performance?

I couldn't compare as the song was not part (if not mistaken) of the previous recording (poor sound quality anyway).

I heard soundboard samples of this show some years ago. The full thing is curculating among the usual few.

Oups, found the whole show (poor sound) meanwhile.

The full audience recording of the performance at Sam's on 9 March 1981 features on 'Everybody Dance', and includes the long dreamy instrumental intro. The track stretches to just over 6 minutes including the intro.

An improved version of the audience recording of 'Crazy You', I believe taken from the same source as above, featured on Sabotage's City Lights 'Remastered' Volume 1, but it does not include the intrumental intro, and therefore runs to just over 5 minutes.

The soundboard recording of a live performance of 'Crazy You' was included as part of one of Questlove's streamed sets last year (I think 20 April). It includes the instrumental intro and in total runs to over 8 minutes.

If you compare this soundboard to the circulating audience recording of Sam's, it has a longer and different guitar outro.

I believe that the DJ stream from last year was edited and has subsequently circulated on both bootlegs and upload online (as referred to variously above). However, those that have done so have usually assumed it to be a soundboard version of Sam's without comparison with the circulating audience recording, resulting in it having been mislabelled. (In order to try to provide an 'unadulterated' version of the soundboard, some of these have also been edited to exclude, for example, the instrumental intro and beyond, and cut in just as Prince's vocal starts - presumably because, just prior to this, the soundbaord streamed last year was overlaid with live DJ talk / effects. An online version that I have listened to, running to just over 6 minutes, is an example of this edit.

(Of course, a soundboard of the Sam's performance - as also suggested above - might also separately exist and circulate to a limited extent).
