Purple Rain Filming Locations - Then and Now

We know some bits of Purple Rain was filmed in Los Angeles, but beyond Morris's apartment, the Huntington hotel, and a couple of other things, it's pretty amazing what this guy found.

Even the alley where the album cover and movie poster were shot, where Prince's mom was sitting outside on the stoop, the tunnels under the 101 during "When Doves Cry," and ...well, just watch!

We have Paisley Park you goofballs. lol

People know that the actual First Avenue is small as shit.

We should have a Prince picnic around that area in Cali with the park.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I never said it was mysterious, you did.

But good for you, Bert. Good for you. You're so talented, the way you pick one little thing and blow it up like "WE KNEW THAT ALREADY." GOD, what a gift you have!

You sit down and be quiet over there. LOL

Oddly, the time on the Org is off. It says I posted at 1:42am, when in fact it was this afternoon, an hour or so ago, at most.

That was pretty cool. I didn’t know that Prince owned the “purple rain house “in Minneapolis. I went by there in 2019 and took pictures but didn’t get out because I didn’t know if anyone live there and didn’t wanna violate their privacy. Ownership might’ve changed hands by then. I don’t know who owns it now or if the estate does.

That was great to watch. Thankyou. Apollonia was so sweet. So many location mixes in a scene, who would have known!

Great footage. I never knew some of the scenes were filmed in L.A.

They had to move a lot of the production after an extreme, early-season cold snap in Minnesota.

In the commentary track on one of the anniversary edition DVDs of Purple Rain, Albert Magnoli and Robert Cavallo talk about it pretty extensively.
