You can totally hear why people would doubt the authenticity, both vocals and piano. There are some signature moments that nobody but Prince would do, both on piano, and the delivery. An imposter would have done the falsetto

To my ears it's unmistakably Prince. Also I love those rare glimpses we get to hear of him actually sketching out a song. To me fits well with Bridge of Graffitt (and maybe even the Grand Progression).
Also nice to hear the term Queen Bee not referencing Beyoncé, lol. 🍢

At first glance I was like "why would Prince cover a 2000's era Green Day tune" lol

You are right! This is just incredible. It will never cease to amaze me how this guy can turn a nice-sounding demo into a musical experience from another galaxy. Another example that comes to mind is "Thieves In The Temple" (Acoustic guitar demo vs Released track on GB album). Thanks PurpleYoda for releasing this!!!

- Yes this is Prince. And it sure sounds like a nice try-out of ideas on a demo. Raw and quick. -

21 hunh? This further cements the fact that Prince and I were connected! I was born on the 21st of June...2 weeks after his birthday. Terrible but...he died on the 21st, too! Didn't he? Ah well... His Dad, also, looked like people on my Dad's side of the family.
To be really scary, NOW, a little bit...that picture in his book, The Beautiful Ones, of his mother standing beside a car....SHEESH!...the first two initials of the car tag are...KM...!
NO BULLSHIT! The first initial of my first name is "K" and the first initial of my last name is "M"...KM!
If Tyka is reading this, please release all of his music as fast as possible or at least make it ALL AVAILABLE, as fast as possible...if she wanted to be really cool with me...RELEASE THE UNDERTAKER ALBUM, this year...by JUNE, eh?
Peace out! Love to all my black people and...purple people!

It's freaking easy to find online (duh!) Yes like it, he clearly later used the melody in Contest song! Sounds like a very early unpolished demo to me, on YouTube some people think it's from 89/90 (maybe because the singing style is similar to American In Paris?) but I think it could even be from the late 70s, especially with the piano pauses where you can hear him figuring out what to play next.

[Edited 2/18/21 10:46am] From the sharer I understand this to be from the same sessions as 'Bridge of Graffiti', though a different tape. Though it's an unfinished demo 'Bridge of Graffiti' is still way superior to the released song and is also a raw piano demo.

^ Yes I find these raw demos very catchy and full of feeling! 'Bridge of Graffiti' is far superior to the released version, what a nice melody!

Whoa. It certainly could be Prince. There are a lot of things here that sound like Prince but it's a voice I've never really heard him use. Towards the end it sounds like him though. The line "Nobody will get stung" is pure Prince.
The piano also does sound like musical passages that I've heard him play before. The piano parts where he makes a mistake are normal. Lots of people make mistakes when they play something for the first time. Prince was human after all. More than likely this is something he sat at the piano with and just riffed on one time only and never did anything about.

That would be very pedestrian piano-playing for Prince ... But who knows ...

Yeah, it's definitely Prince to my ears, albeit in rough and ready form and in an uncommon register (this is how ideas are often sketched out, the delivery is secondary). I find it surprising that people are questioning it - it's very difficult to replicate all of the subtle inflections and fundamental characteristics of a person's voice. I agree, it sounds much earlier - I wouldn't go as far as the 70s, but possibly mid to late 80s. It needed some work lyrically, but the chorus/lyrical hook is quite catchy. Comparing it to Contest Song, it kind of illustrates his tendency to smother a song in excessive polish in later years.

I doubted it was Prince, the vocal doesn't sound right. UNTIL I sped it up 10% and then, Boom, it was him. The person who leaked it just didn't bother to speed it up a little. PIPS! Eurgh...

Really? What's wrong in discussing the very thing we all love? Why would that be a reason not to share. We are getting together around this share which most people really appreciate and yes on top of that causes a discussion about Prince's vocal and style of playing the piano. Nothing wrong!
