Future Soul Song is one of his best tracks ever. You heard me.

I'm not a huge fan of the ballads in general but that's one of his better ones. My keepers are:

Laydown
Sticky Like Glue
Beginning Endlessly
Future Soul Song
Lavaux

I stuck half of MPLSound on it:

Dance 4 Me
Valentina
Ol Skool Company
Never B Another

and got a good enough throwback style CD out of it.

Not enough love for "Laydown" here. Love that track. Just raw and bad ass.

I've always liked that one, too.

I am with Genesia and Herb on this; Laydown is an epic introduction track for a show, that Lopez tonight performance was like a banner that said "Prince has arrived, the show will start"

I wish Laveaux was performed live just once, I'd love to hear a jammier band version sad

It does not deserve hate, but it is a patchy album.

.

Futuresoulsong is one of his greatest ever songs, beautiful singing and flow and great balletic energy - sexy too.

Compassion and Beginning endlessly are great as well, nice energy cuts. Walk in sand is more cloying cuteness that works - that falsetto and it makes you feel like he is singing it while fluttering his eyelashes! Lavaux and Laydown are good - latter song less good having to scroll through empty tracks

.

The rest however is very average - Everybody loves me is not very good - but it is streets ahead of say NewPowersoul and TRC.

.

Overall an average Prince album - not great but not MEH! either. Futuresoulsong is worth the price of admission alone. You could have that and 10 Boytrouble/Lemon Crush/Jughead quality songs with Scrappa Doo rap and it will still be a "decent" album lol

One of his purely enjoyable post 80s albums to listen to until Everybody Loves Me, which seems like a joke that goes on for too long. That is not to say it is one of his best albums, just one that flows easy and melodically with fairly simple arrangements. Beginning Endlessly is the song from the 2000s that reminds me the most of his 1980s heyday. The album was one of the most pleasant surprises once I heard it given it's relatively obscurity in the states.

Does someone here remember the Walk in Sand music video? It was made for an event during the summer of 2010, was it Montreux? It was an animated video made with sand. . It made me like the song, that I didn't care much about before.

It was an ad for the Super Bock Super Rock festival in Portugal in 2010, where Prince performed. It was "premiered" the morning of his show. A nice little odd thing as a video.

Yes, that Lopez performance was great, him shredding the guitar and John Blackwell on drums.

.

There's a live rehearsal of Stick Like Glue with some cool guitar on too.

.

Speaking of SLG; that must be some of his best rhythm guitar on record.

'Future Soul Song' and 'Beginning Endlessly' are two top-tier Prince songs. 'Sticky like Glue' is a tight, incisive return to classic Prince minimalist funk and if you either appreciate or ignore the short rap, completes a trio of very strong songs. From there it veers a little with the dated lyrics of the nevertheless intensely funky 'Act of God', but redeems with 'Lavaux', which begs for the extended version reported to have been included on the aborted 20TEN Deluxe. So far so good, but then you have two ballads back-to-back and the oddity of 'Everybody Loves Me', which slows the pace somewhat and impressions overall.

If you leave just one of those ballads, remove 'Everybody Loves Me' and finish with 'Laydown', you have a very tight, solid album. If 'Rich Friends' had been added on the second half of the album in favour of 'Everybody Loves Me', the set would be better still.

I'm hopeful that 20TEN Deluxe will eventually be released as Prince had to my awareness fully completed it and it is his only solo album never to have been officially released in the USA.
