Your favorite estate release so far?

Was listening to 'Prince - Originals' & realised it's actuall my fave so far! Tight, focussed, simple , well balanced & lots of fun.

Simple Q- what's your number 1?

Sign o the Times Super Deluxe edition for several reasons.

.

1. It is the greatest album ever made in my opinion.

2. It is by far the most comprehensive and ambitious project done so far.

3. The quality in general is fantastic.

4. It has a lot of songs, we have all being listening as bootlegs of various quality in real sound.

5. It has kept the fam communith abuzz for a while and busy (Go away and spend the next 3 months absorbing all this music razz).

6. It opens up so many hidden depths and dimensions to Prince's talent and gets in his mental space c.1986

.

1999 SD was great too and definitely #2

I also like Originals and those versions of the songs, pretty much every cut is great.

Didn't mind the rest, Emancipation a little less essential along with Versace.

Up all night was good as you could get ONA complete and to be honest I did not have that album series, so now I do.

.

The Purple Rain superdeluxe seemed great at the time, but now seems half cocked next to 1999 and SOTT. I did not care much for the Rave set, although I bought it anyway along with CD and vinyl of Piano and Microphone 83 (I am just a hardcore fan who will buy anything wink)

.

Overall the estate serves us well, next to say the Michael Jackson one - just two albums, one with fake songs on it, a bad mixtape and a Bad25 re release and that is pretty much it. No Michael Vault albums or Dangerous 25?

I got plenty good loving for ya baby

SOTT SD
1999 SD

The Originals album is tainted by the mixing of Bolas, in particular his ample use of reverb. Also, multiple versions of certain tracks have been merged together. It does have a few relatively untouched highlights though.

The Purple Rain SD is an adequate set, but not a genuine Paisley Park vault deluxe, so is missing large swathes of material and is incomplete. The unreleased songs presented, with a few exceptions, are generally first-rate though.

The Piano and a Microphone 1983, has some engaging moments of magic, but is too fragmented and fleeting to be cohesive or truly satisfying in my opinion. It does provide the public a raw and interesting glimpse, but is far from the best vault/rehearsal piano material Prince has in the vault and would've been stronger as part of a set or as a bonus disc for another project.

I would say the 'best' so far is SOTT, as it is really well done and extensive and the remastering is done very tastefully. My 'favorite' though changes all the time, depending on my mood. Which is telling me they all have their value, we have been pretty much spoiled compared to for examples MJ fans.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
