I’m kind of late but I finally heard princes version and saw the video. Really liked it. Thoughts?

First time I listened to it on Originals, I found it way too long and repetitive.
Second time, it sounded a lot like a Don't Stop Till You Get Enough ripp-off.
But when the video came out,I absolutely loved it!
That's my favourite song of the album. When the song comes up, I always put the sound louder.
.
The video got a lot of hype the first few days, reaching fast 600.000 views on YouTube, then it stopped suddenly. I wonder what happened.

I would have loved a video for Gigolo...I think it could have had some airplay on radio, it really sounds fresh and new, like Bruno Mars, the Weekend or Daft Punk.

I love it and I think Prince nails it more than Sheila does. I love Sheila, but I just don't think this song works for her as much.

.

That video is beyond awesome, even if its all Purple Rain era Princes when the song is clearly an 85/86 vibe to it.

.

The congas and piling drums really give it some bounce and the hook and melody is really catchy - Sheila E's the name, Holly Rock's the game, funky as eye wanna be, line up 100 and swear good god!

I got plenty good loving for ya baby

Agree with every word.

Love Holly Rock. I didn't listen to Sheila's version until after I'd heard Prince's, and to me, it doesn't compare. And I'm not one of those fans who automatically thinks a Prince vocal always trumps an associated artist one (I much prefer the original tracks from The Family to the Prince versions of the same songs). But Holly Rock just has a masculine energy to it, which sounds better coming from Prince than Sheila.

ForceofNature

I am not hearing it much myself. Don't Stop is in B major, Holly Rock in D, and the main melodic motives are different - similarities in the 4/4 grooving percussion wise but not too much beyond that

Thanks man! yes wildsign prince comfort

.

When I heard an album was coming out with Prince versions of songs for proteges and other artists, I was so excited and apart from the Kenny Rogers song, was not disappointed.

.

In amongst all the musicianship, songwriting, performance and production skills, we can overlook that he was one of the greatest singers of all time as well.

.

Agree about the Family except for one song, Screams of Passion (Prince's vocals - good lord!) but that album is meticulous and why it did not shoot to #1 is a mystery - probably his most cohesive pop album ever and masterful songwriting. Prince and the band doing Mutiny and High Fashion (Stuck up little rich girl) is just more cream!
