Prince on a David Bowie album?

I was recently listening to David Bowie’s 1995 album “Outside: The Nate Adler diaries” and I noticed that the voice on the into track, “Leon Takes Us Outside”, sounded somewhat familiar. Now granted, David Bowie does a couple of segues in character on the album, including that of a child named “Baby Grace”. But there’s something about the voice on the initial track that sounds a lot like Prince. It’s the way he says “1999”, “October” and “Martin Luther King Jr.”. You can sometimes hear a hint of a British accent, but it sounds more like an American trying to sound British than the other way around? Has anyone else heard this on a good sound system where you can clearly hear the voice?

Unfortunately I dont have a great sound system but maybe some on here will share their thoughts.
Would be awesome if it is indeed Prince

.... and no one thinks it’s ironic that this is the same year that Prince attended David Bowie’s 50th birthday concert at Madison Square Garden in NYC?

I think he says that he did meet him once, and 'he was nice to me - seems like he was nice to everybody' before he played the 'Heroes' cover? But just the once - sure he's not on Outside. But that would have been amazing. The "Heroes" cover, and Prince on guitar on "Let's Dance" at the Essence Festvial with Nile Rogers are the only Bowie/P crossovers I know of. Wish there were more.

I was my understanding that Prince invited David to Paisley after D did a show.

He went.

When asked if he ever recorded with Bowie, Prince replied " You should have been there". End of the 90's .

which is of course nonsense as Bowie & crew went into P.Park in 87/88 , met P , had a tour with some of the crew etc whilst Bowie was on the MPLS leg. Cat tells her version of that night somewhere online but its well documented .

Prince also stated on a Piano and Microphone show that Bowie had been 'real nice' toward him and behaved similarly with everyone, so it would be safe to assume Prince had had at least one encounter with him.

The voice is in the same ballpark as Prince but it's not his voice.

it's not, the 50th birthday concert was in 1997 (and it featured many songs from Earthling).

Prince unfortunately did not play on 1. Outside or any Bowie album for that matter.

My 16 yr-old son's first musical interest is David Bowie and he's been into him for several years now. Man, if Bowie and Prince had done something... eek

There really is nothing to believe. And TBH I don't even understand why anyone would think there is or bother listening to it and try to figure it out by themselves. Both artists' recording sessions have been researched intensively, + Bowie was always a very collaborative artist so there were always musicians and producers around.

It's not like us learning years after the fact that Prince was buried in the mix on a Nikka Costa album no one ever researched. Such cameos may still be revealed in years to come (I'm still waiting for Macy and ?uestlove confirming whether or not Prince plays some piano on The ID, as Macy once hinted at). But if Prince was on a David Bowie album, the chances that it wouldn't have been documented by now would be close to zero.

Well, I for one would not be surprised if there ever might pops up a surprise, no one ever thought would be possible. With Prince, you just don't ever really know.

But yeah, the Bowie story here opinionated certainly never existed.

They might've met - I have no idea - but certainly did anything together.

Except for Prince playing one song of Bowie when he passed away.

And I actually have no idea if Bowie ever covered something by Prince.

-

By the way, I always felt like Bowie was some kind of Prince in the UK, so prolific, so different and challenging all the time.

But Prince was never a kind of Bowie (in the USA). He just wasn't so edgy as Bowie was imho.

For me both artist are on a extreme high level of artistry.

I follow them both since ages. Prince a bit more extensively.

Both are impossible to compare tbh, simply because there is no need to.

So forget my (stupid) remark/opinion. wink
