They showed the Grammy Salute to Prince last night (new year's eve) on Australian television, so I got to see it at last. (I can't remember where I was or what I was doing in May 2020; I wasn't watching television, that's for sure.)

And although I didn't sit glued to the tv for two hours I thought it was pretty good - with some cringeworthy moments.

"Princess and the Revolution." Please, no, do not ever bill any line-up as that.

"Darling Nikki". Well, yes, he's dead, but while he was alive he took that out of his set lists. I think we can safely say he would not have wanted it played as part of a tribute concert.

Sheila E I thought was sensational as was Wendy Melvoin on guitar and so good to see them both again.

How time flies.

On New Years Eve they broadcasted the "Rave Un2 The Year 2000" concert recording on TV here in Belgium.

It's the first time I've seen it.

This was an absolute low point for me.

What a bad/sad over the top, low point concert, and what a mess.

Overdubbed sound, messy filming, an empty stage that was too big, a lot of overloaded cheap show elements like the cotton back drop, the unneede stairs, and sloppy appearances...

and it seemed that Prince was not enjoying it all - it seemed a contractual obligation, where there wasn't any.

But compare this concert with everything he did up till 1990

ANd you'll know what I mean.

Even the SOTT concert film is far far far more better... and at the time of it's release I had doubts with that one too.

I think there were some flashes of awesomeness. My wife absolutely loved the rendition of Adore (our wedding song) played by EW&F. I also thought that The Beautiful Ones by HER was probably one of the best covers I've ever heard. Tried to find that for replay and its nowhere! AND being a big fan of the foo figheters it was cool to hear/see them play it live.

Only problem I had with it was that it wasn't made available for replay unless you recorded on a DVR. I would happily pay to hear/see the performances again.

I don't care if he did take Darling Nikki and his other sexually explicit songs out of his list in his later years, we're not erasing his salicious past in his younger days. It was who Prince was. I would always overlook what he would do or say even when he was older and a JW because he still straddled on both sides of the fence still teasing about sex even after he was "saved".

We were talking about the Rave 2000 DVD, you are talking about the Grammy tribute.

The Grammy tribute certainly had some nice moments, to get back on topic. The Time and the Foo Fighters were the highlights for me!

I was at the taping. Felt underwhelmed. Seeing Sheila on stage on almost every song was ehhh...towards the end she got mad folks weren't dancing enough.

In germany there was also a 24 hours maraton on 3sat channel through the 31 December and there was the Sign o the times movie, Rave concert and this grammy salute....it is nice for people who don't know Prince at all...and there are a lot...

Foo Fighters playing Darling Nikki was the highlight of the whole farken show! And so was The Time and The Revolution. And if you knew Prince as good as you think you do, then you’d know that he respected the FF’s rendition of Nikki so much that he returned the favour and covered their song Best Of You in the Superbowl set. This is the first I've heard of the the Superbowl cover being a positive thing. Always thought he did it on some "oh you're covering my song? I'll spite yall by doing a cover of yours"
