When Morris Hayes asked Prince to play Lady Cab Driver his

response was that it never worked live.Hays responded that he have seen

some club band killing it but Prince was still nah.

So what do you think? Cause he didn't convince me,and my favourite

is Lady Cab Driver 29 november 1982 live. A version that goes into

extended part where Prince sings about sexy mamma and

he goes into Santana like guitar solo .maybe one of the rare

examples of him soling on it,but it's not my favourite just because

of Prince playing guitar solo,it's because that version slays all the versioons i've heard so far.

That's one of my favorite Prince songs of all time. The tour demo on 1999 Deluxe that has it part of a medley is great. I've also heard a rehearsal of him playing it the same way he did in that demo. It would have been very hot played in concert that way.

In the last 10 years i had an oportunitty to speak with Michael Bland,Levi Seacer jr

,Matt Fink,Miko Weaver,Jill Jones,Bobby Z ,Lisa Coleman,John Blackwell.i also was a stage crew on a funk festival 2019 and i got to know Greg Boyer,Mike Philly,Npg horns,Sheila Escovado.

When i aprouched Philly and start talking how i like his playing with the NPG he told me this guy over there played with Prince,and i said :who ? and Mike responded Greg Boyer,and

i said of course i know Greg he played with P Funk and Chuck Brown.when i start recalling stuff

from Gregs biography his jaws dropped ,he was like how this europen white boy knows this much. So i don't know why it's hard to believe that i have,had contanct with Prince associates,many orgers do beside me.

The rendition he gave in Detroit during the 1999 tour is one of my favorite live songs, especially with those extra lyrics. I´m quite surprised to read that Prince thought this song wouldn´t work live. In my opinion it also depends a lot on the band and the sound he creates with his band. While I do think that the Detroit version sounded great, I can´t see any other band live up to that version, and besides, he probably wouldn´t have wanted to repeat that version.

I like that medley version of it on SDE, too.

It has the same sound as that Purple Medley. I never heard the version the band played live. But that statement in itself says he played ALL the instruments on the 1999 Deluxe(whom remains my favorite deluxe packet so far) version. Also Prince(r.i.p.) was good at mimicking ANY lick the band played.

Unless Prince(r.i.p.) comes back and tells me otherwise.That's what I believe.

If he's talking about Purple Medley that was all recorded in the 90s 1994 or 1995?

It worked, it just wasn't always the same song. All the Critics Love You was a similar phenomenon.
