1999 Super Deluxe Edition or Sign O'the Times Super Deluxe Edition? I'm going with 1999. Especially for songs like Bold Generation, Money Don't Grow On Trees, Purple Music (which should have been released as a single during it's time in my opinion), Colleen. They're so amazing! Man that's the Prince I'll always remember

Purple Music is boring and too repetitive. Nothing great of a melody or a groouve neither.
The only good idea is the effect on the vocals, that has never been used by Prince in his lifetime. [Edited 1/15/21 9:22am]

The Peach and Black Podcast crew went fucking overboard with their review of the track. Now, Possessed on the other hand... š¤

this is a really cool debate. arguably Princeās 2 most prolific eraās of his career, and certainly of the 1980s.
the remasters of both albums are well done, and i just prefer 1999 over Sā®ļøTT, so, theres that. as a set though, i would say Sā®ļøTT wins. the b-sides of this era are significantly better (imo) than that of 1999, and All My Dreams, Strange Relationship, Witness, In A Large Room, Train, Adonis, Cocoa Boys, Rebirth (even with the unable-to-be-unheard edit at the end), Cosmic Day, Wally, and Jealous Girl (such a fun track lol) are all album-worthy songs, imo. 1999ās vault tracks, like Rearrange, Bold Generation, Possessed, Purple Music, Moonbeam Levels, and Do Yourself A Favor, are equally as good, but the number of fantastic songs we got from Sā®ļøTT SDE is i think the deal breaker for me. had Extraloveable and Lust U Always been added, though... (with lyric changes, of course) [Edited 1/15/21 11:01am]

There is no wrong answer here. Both are amazing releases. I prefer 1999 a little more probably. I like the packaging more. The music is great on both. But if SOTT included othe 1986 material like Crucial(all versions), CB, MYMH, JIR, RHIAFP, FUU...I would choose it instead. But with that said, if 1999 included EL, LUA not sure again. And it doesn't stop there, it's always something else with this guy. You can argue the protege material from 1982 was his best. The entire What Time is it? album and Nasty Girl. Oh good god, i gotta stop.

LOVE both, but 1999 slightly edges out Sign at the moment. It's been a year and I am still playing the hell out of 1999. Sign has cooled a bit, but I was obsessed with it for a few months, so needed a break.

The 'Sign 'O' The Times' SDE is missing too much. '1999' is still my favorite, no matter what! "Whatever skin we're in

It is missing stuff that should be on there but at least some of it is available on Crystal Ball. 1999 is missing two songs not available elsewhere. Both sets are amazing but I give it to Sign due to the wealth of material and a better live album. I do think for me Parade could maybe even better Sign. [Edited 1/15/21 23:17pm]

I prefer 1999 SDE. I've hardly listened to SOTT SDE since I got it. It's too overwhelming. āhttps://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast

Now see there, you're trying to make me misbehave by making me compare the cold, futuristic Minneapolis Sound of the "Old Prince" of 1978-1984 to the more complex and worldly sound of the "Artsy/Fartsy" Prince of 1985-1988. Both are great but "Old Prince" is going to win with me every single time no matter how good "Artsy/Fartsy" Prince is. I love them both but the cold futuristic sound any of the "Old Prince" albums will always be my favorite when placed against any albums of Prince's entire career no matter how good they are. There's no way I can be objective or fair because the "Old Prince" has always and will always be my favorite. . . . [Edited 1/16/21 10:07am] Andy is a four letter word.

Package-wise though, I prefer "Sign O The Times". "1999" is my alltime favorite era of Prince so I would haved absolutely LOVED for it to have the packaging that "Sign O The Times" had. Andy is a four letter word.

Obviously both are awesome, but the SOTT wins just for the inclusion of that NYE show and its ridiculous Beautiful Night jam. [Edited 1/16/21 13:55pm]

Although I prefer the original album of SOTT over 1999, I listen to the 1999 outtakes more often than those from SOTT. I think that there is a high level of quality from almost all the 1999 outtakes. So, as packaged, I enjoy listening to the entire 1999 collection more. That said, I do think it would be close if you took the best of the SOTT outtakes and condensed them from 3 albums to 2 albums.

...and then expanded the extra cd's to 4 with the tracks that were left off because they thought it was enough that those songs were on the old-ass 'CB' compilation with all the wrong edits. THEN, 'SOTT' ultra mega super deluxe would've been better. (& with the cool CD packaging like 1999) "Whatever skin we're in
