Mellow inspired by Journey Into Love by Lonnie Liston Smith

I'm not saying it's a ripoff but if you listen to Lonnie Liston Smith song Journey Into Love

you will hear a strong resemblance with Mellow, even some licks from the song are featured in Mellow

Pretty obvious from the first notes. Interesting.

Some people think Prince was emulating D'Angelo with The Rainbow Children but i heard Lonnie Liston Smith as one of the main influences

I'd say he was not so much emulating D'Angelo specifically than the whole Soulquarian thing and the influence it had over R&B in general: a return to a very organic 70's sound overall. It was the zeitgeist at the time is all.

I heard a snippet song that was EXACTLY " ...and God Created Woman" on some YouTube meme comp. Judging from the sound of the recording techniques it was late 60s-early 70s. I mean it was exact. I had it bookmarked but recently the video has been taken down. I wish I knew what THAT song really was. It was thew exact bass line, guiter lick, and drum pattern but it was old.

lol I posted this back in 2001 when The Rainbow Children was released on I think Housequake and got my head chewed off by the usual insane and obsessed creepazoid fans who flamed me for just mentioning this as my opinion. Glad to finally see someone else hearing it to!
