Only speculation of course...

"Will Warners opt for Parade as the next Prince reissue?

Warners are on a great run with their Prince reissues. 2019’s 1999 was superb and last year’s Sign O’ The Times really upped the ante, in terms of content (and price). I have a feeling they will remain in the classic era of the 1980s and perhaps step back to the Parade album. Whatever happens, Michael Howe and team have a reputation for doing the job in a thoughtful and robust manner and another Prince reissue is an exciting prospect."

really an interesting article. would love to see Let It Be get a deluxe edition.

as for Prince, i thought someone on the org said from a reliable source that Diamonds and Pearls would be the next deluxe edition (i could be wrong though). Parade deluxe would be very nice, though. maybe the estate will continue monitoring what the fans want and would roll with Parade next over D&P

I've long theorized that Parade would be the next one. It seems the most logical. They went backward from PR to 1999 last time before jumping to SOTT. So why not backtrack one here and do Parade?

If they do, I think it's sorta reasonable to jump forward and backward from there. Something like Controversy, ATWIAD, Dirty Mind, Lovesexy, Prince, Batman, For You, Graffiti Bridge.

Even without all that theorizing, Parade still seems logical to do next. I wouldn't be upset if they just dove into ATWIAD before that, either.

Whatever it is, I don't think it'll be anything before May or June, other than a random single 7" or something. SOTT was a whopper, and there wasn't anything before that. A good year of waiting wouldn't hurt. Sony will fill any gaps with their purple vinyl orgy.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I would kill for a ATWIAD SDE. Finally have amazing remastered quality versions of the Exentended versions/remnixes and B-sides. Not to mention the outtakes (Empty Room, Go, Teh Dance Electric etc.)
A live set would be skipped tho I think unless they relesase the 85 June 7th show on video and audio. Hopeful wink wink

Is it possible we could get 2 deluxe editions: one from Warners (e.g. Parade) and one from Sony (e.g. D&P)? I don’t know enough about the Sony contract to know if they have access to vault tracks, despite trying to understand it from the various articles.

I agree. I personally would prefer either "Dirty Mind" or "Controversy" first but I would be very pleased if "Parade" was the next one. It's the one that I predicted next because of the popularity of the albums around here and my predictions have been correct so far.

.

Unfortunately, there's a rumor that the next one will be "Diamonds and Pearls" which I hope isn't true. I wish they would hurry up and make an announcement because soon it will be tax refund time. I need to know because if it's "Diamonds and Pearls", I can spend my money on something else. lol

The Parade album needs an SDE pretty bad. It's also one of the best cases of showing off his diverse library.

Parade outtakes like The Question of U, Call of the Wild, All My Dreams, Old Friends 4 Sale, Neon Telephone, and one offs like Go, Heaven, Empty Room, and the associate stuff like Holly Rock, Mia Bocca, Etc, really show off how much shit he was experimenting on.

Kind of boggles the mind why he said Parade didn't have enough good material to choose from. I disagree with P on that one - it had a ton of shit. Cohesive? Maybe not. But brilliant nonetheless.

That being said, I'd also love a D&P set. Prince's first foray into that big band style that became his live performance hallmark and his most concerted effort at delivering a commercial product since Purple Rain deserves the platinum treatment.

I would kill for a DIRTY MIND: SUPER DELUXE. It’s a stone cold classic that needs to be both celebrated and rediscovered by a new audience. It literally laid the foundation for the Minneapolis Sound and ushered in Prince’s Classic Era. Plus there is a relative black hole Vault wise from this era as not a lot of songs are known about....

Do we know if there's enough to fill it out? I'd guess there could be demos, but it's starting to seem like we generally know the bulk of what exists for the 80's. Maybe someone can ask Dez, or Andre.

I am now thinking they did the track listing for Parade SD before SOTT SD. And since they put "All My Dreams" on SOTT (when it fits better Parade--it seems it was included due to having been sequenced on "Dream Factory") that may indicate they have enough for at least 2 CDs of Parade era material.

Myself and others have gone into more specific detail, but long story short, there absolutely is more than enough to fill a disc (or two!) for both DM and Controversy... and it would be insanely killer.

Someone told me they had it compiled alongside 1999 SDE and then earlier last year or whereabouts they re-did and switched things around it for reasons unknown.

I really hope it's Parade. Hardcore fans are the only ones who really give a damn about these sets anyway, and I don't know many fans who'd want D&P Deluxe before Parade Deluxe. Even if they're trying to hook in casual fans, I imagine more people are familiar with "Kiss" than the few hits from D&P

i think they should do a Dirty Mind/Controversy set... the two albums are so similar and after the huge super deluxe releases we’ve had (1999 & SOTT especially) it seems like it would make sense to bundle the albums. mainly saying this bc i don’t wanna have to wait for both to be released haha

For me "Parade" SD would literally be a dream come true. My favourite P album & era and as mentioned previously the outtakes and associated material are mind blowing. Imagine hearing "Heaven" in great quality and Prince's first take on "Mia Bocca". Oh lawd!

Yet I don't. I want the full The Dance Electric not the Prince solo thing without the guitar solos.
Plus the outakes and B-sides are more interesting from ATWIAD. Hell this so called Purple Rain Deluxe didn't even have the extneded version of 17 Days or Wednesday or G-Spot or the original Father's Song. The Purple Rain Deluxe is a huge disapointment in my opinion.

Last month the original non-segued version of All My Dreams with a longer non-fade in intro was shared among some lucky people. Hopefully this version could be on a Parade SDE.
I guess they only used the version of All My Dreams that segues from Old Friends 4 Sale (you can hear the end of it in the fade in) on SOTT SDE because they haven;'t found the original recording yet, so maybe they're still figuring out and searching for more recordings regarding Parade SDE and in the mean time have enough material for a Diamond and Pearls SDE and can release that for the time being.

nod I love the Revolution era but we, the world, should get something else from Prince's archives for a while.

ah, i don’t think i’ve heard the other version of TDE. but i think the estate made the original Purple Rain Deluxe so small bc they will try and make as much money off that era as possible. when most people think of Prince, they think of something from Purple Rain (either Let’s Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, or the movie, usually). most people who aren’t huge Prince fans won’t want a remastered double album with three extra discs of unreleased tracks (SOTT); so, in the next few years, i wouldn’t be shocked to see the estate put out another, much larger, Purple Rain deluxe, just simply to make money off of it.

I think The Estate didn't have much to do with the Purple Rain Deluxe we got but that was more of a WB and Prince thing to that they were doing when Prince was still alive.
Michael Howe said they would eventually do a Purple Rain SDE, so I guess that would be more like 1999 SDE and SOTT SDE.
