The "Call of The Wild"/"9-5 People" question appears answered according to PrinceVault

PrinceVault have removed the page for 9-5 People and added the paragraph below to the Call of The Wild page.

* This song was previously incorrectly thought to be called '''9-5 People''', and from 1988, however it is now verified this is its correct title and no song called '''9-5 People''' seems to exist or have existed.

Curious as to what prompted the verification and who verified it.

Corrections/Revisions shown here:http://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Call_Of_The_Wild&curid=7701&diff=227471&oldid=218253

And apparently it's from 1985! I always thought it has that 88/89 sound... anyway... Guess it's time to change my princevault name....

Thanks 4 the information. As already said, I thought t that it was an 88' sound. "My vault" has been updated.

I wholeheartedly agree. It sounds like a late-80's track, particularly the drums.

Romeoblu

He very rarely titled a song where the title isn't in the lyrics.

Reading the lyrics I can see why he would call the Song Call of The Wild.

Great song whatever.

Would not have fit on Parade at all.

I've been saying this lol. I first realized/noticed because Questlove did a dj set a few years ago and it was labeled as Call of the Wild and not 9-5 people. People told me I was wrong/crazy. The guitar from 85 is a little different than 88. He started using more rack gear later on (87-88) including a chorus effects processor. In 85, it was a little more raw and not as effect driven; if that makes sense.

I wonder who they got their info from. Was it Dhuane or Questlove?

Said to have been inspired by Led Zeppelin...who have loads of songs with titles that are not part of the lyrics.

Okay. Looks like I will have to correct the titles. Finally good to have more information on this track. 88 is one of the best and prolific eras of Prince to me. The songwriting from 1983 to 1989 is just exquisite

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Prince was always ahead of his time, maybe even on his own releases.

It doesn't sound 1985 to me, but neither did Question of U.

I'd probably feel better with more official confirmation somehow.

Plenty of stuff on the SDEs sounded anachronistic to me too though. When The Dawn... sounds right out of 1981-1982 to me. But hey. I can't tell if that means he was ahead of himself or he retread his stuff sooner than anyone really knew.

Wasn't this already known?
It was already confirmed that 9-5 people wasn;'t the title but that it was called Call of the Wild.

It was certainly debated but never confirmed.

Confirmation is from whomever moderates PrinceVault. Their statement is that there is no such thing as a track called 9-5 People. What we thought was that track is officially (according to them) Call of The Wild.

As Duane Tudhal's next book covers the 1985-1986 sessions I assume will get further details.

OK. When the track leaked someone who I deem trustworthy claimed the track was called Call of the Wild and after that I never heard anyone use the title 9-5 People again.
Can't remember if that was posted publicly or on here tho.

While I do not doubt your word, the confirmation either way from a reliable source was not known to many of us who tune in here frequently as well as other Prince chat rooms.

I hold PrinceVault in high regard and they only just removed the page for 9-5 People this past week.

thumbs up!
I also hold Princevault in high regard but they're notorius for late updates or even neglecting updates.
It could be they had this info for a long while and only just now updated it.

Whatever it's called it's an awesome song. I have accepted it as Call Of The Wild and renamed it and moved it to my Parade outtakes folder.

If I put together a Vault tracks top 20 this would make the cut.

Cosign. I was extremely impressed when I first heard it and have loved it since. Weaving it into the lil playlists I make with era tracks will be fun as it is clearly a huge standout.

I'd like 4 someone to put together a Parade era playlist and add Call of the Wild.
I'm not going to do one yet. Even though it was a delight to add this one(like Romeoblu) to my Parade folder.

I want to hear it how others fit it
