With the new Sony rights, where does that leave The Hits compilations?

I’m always checking the iTunes Store and Amazon for new releases. Today I noticed that The Hits/B-sides, The Very Best Of Prince, Ultimate, and 4Ever are no longer available to buy digitally. I know the rights for all non soundtrack albums went to Sony this year and PR, Parade, Batman and GB stayed with WB. So my question is with The Hits albums containing both Sony and WB material what happens to them officially in Prince’s catalog? Are they now removed? I realize Greatest Hits albums are not a high priority for hardcore fans, but I think they have their importance as part of the legacy, especially The Hits/B-sides!

I think it's important to keep the Hits in publication for the b-sides. Ultimately the Super Delux editions should contain all of those b-side (in remastered form, which is even better). But it's gonna be a while before that happens.

Yes, but my question is because there are different entities, have they been taken out of publication?

This has me thinking. Remember in the latest Michael Howe interview (links below) he suggested that there was a release in the works for the novice listeners getting into Prince...

MH : Yes, I believe so. There are two projects that we are currently working on, and I think that each in their own way, they will be pleasant surprises, able to satisfy both the most arduous fans and the other, more novice listeners, who are in full discovery. of Prince and his music.”

Given that Sony are now dealing with the WB era issues / re-issues, do you think they’ll kick it off with a brand new compilation, as they did when they got the rights to the NPG Records material? Anthology 1978 – 1994?

They may have requested the withdrawal of all the previous ones so their collection will be the go-to Greatest Hits album in the USA.

Sounds great but how are they going to have a go-to Greatest Hits album without material from Purple Rain, Parade, and Batman?

That's a good point. Maybe a joint Sony / WB venture?

Is it possible for Sony to do a greatest hits compilation with WB material without a joint venture while still containing WB material?

Actually, that could happen. ‘The Essential Michael Jackson’ contains Motown tracks, and that was a Sony Legacy release. Maybe they want to release ‘The Essential Prince’.

This would be great IF REMASTERED! But most of the Essentials collections are only 2 discs. To be truly comprehensive it has to be at least 3.

.

Starting in 2021, Sony/Legacy's distribution rights will be expanded to include 12 Prince non-soundtrack catalog albums, featuring iconic music recorded by the artist from the 1978-1996 era for distribution in the United States.

.

In bold and red, because plenty of you lot always ignore this.

Forgive me if these are stupid questions but why just the United States? And if they did do a new compilation release could it include material from soundtrack albums even though they don’t have the rights to the soundtrack albums themselves? A go to Prince compilation would be incomplete without PR, Parade, Batman, and GB songs.
