The only positive vibe I get from that interview is that he absolutely reads whatever we say here or on other social media.

So Mr. Howe possibly has an account here I presume. wink

He said he was shocked about the harsh comments he received from the fans on social media and Prince forums.

He urges us to keep discussing and informing them with comments and ideas.

What doesn't mean they will pay full attentiont to all we propose of course.

So it might be important and quite interesting that we provide well-informed and well-considered information, rather than impossible-to-attain ideas.

Then he must know by now what we need: a NPGMC type of downloading subscription or a Bandcamp online store (Bandcamp can also provide subscription services BTW, Bill Laswell just created one (https://billlaswell.bandcamp.com/) for all that material that cannot find its way to the CD/LP racks or be worthy of the SDE treatment, such as rehearsals and these live shows, studio outtakes or rare edits that are mostly of interest only to the most hardcore fanbase.

.

There is simply way too much material in that vault for just 5 CD's and one DVD or so of new material to be released every year without the fanbase being increasingly frustrated after some years.

.

I know we got 5 CD's and 1 DVD of unreleased material each year for the last 2 years, which is of course very satisfactory in itself, but because we know the amount of recordings the Estate owns and have so many bootlegs, there will always be an appetite for more and, I would say, probably more in the next 20/30 years of so than ever, because after that many fans who loved Prince's music in his lifetime will be dead, and no one can tell whether future generations will be as interested as us in hardcore material. Take our money now, we're here smile

-

All true.

But i'm with peace now, knowing we will never get it all.

I don't need all the shows of every tour for example.

Just sayin'

No, we surely don't.

I would say that I don't need every show from every tour. Or even every alt. mix of every studio track for that matter.

But put it out there, and I'll sure want them.

Ahhhh...!

That clarifies the situation a bit.

I was thinking of comparing live shows from the sounboard recordings and thus being able to more objectively find the better shows. (no recording quality issues, your own emotions, etc)

That i mean.

I don't need to 'compare' these shows.

But just 'one show', in a simply good quality, that's enough for me.

No need here for same shows.

I have so many 'same shows' in different quality, that I never/ barely listen to.

I can't imagine what potential they see in it other than to right the wrongs of the initial botched release; namely the too loud mastering and intentionally bad editing.

.

A straight up reissue for posterity is really all that's needed. Better to continue putting their energies towards the specific album/era remasters rather than waste effort on bringing this confused Frankenstein release back to the fore.

Hear, hear!

I want to hear "Calhoun Square" and "What's My Name" in the chronological context,
next to the songs from the same era and the same state of mind.

Anthology is a much better pot-pourri.

Ever heard about quality control?
Is there a nutcase that wants to go through it all?
Sure for selecting the most astounding ones, and that's about it.
At some point you have to learn to trust the one who's selecting,
like Sabotage did with City Lights, and few people complained.

We can crawl the unofficial sources, it's all out there.
Besides, it's more fun.

Who does quality control at a live concert?

At the record company?

Please show you read my previous posts as I am quite vocal about lack of quality in certain areas.

Is there a nutcase that wants to go through it all?

Please call someone else like that.

As it was the first and they did not have full access.

I don't really understand why all the outrage, no one forces anyone to buy these Sony rereleases, and they don't get in the way of archive releases either since these are 2 separate programs.

.

Based on what Sony has done so far, it appears this will be a regular reissue, not a SDE, so remastering seems out of the question for now (but may eventually happen for some sort of SDE). As for any sort of re-editing or tinkering, I simply can't believe there are still people daring asking for this. P's albums (or any other artist's albums, for that matter) are what they are and should remain so after they die. Asking for archivists to alter them is, forgive me for being so blunt, utter stupidity.

.

The interview contained some other interesting, if somewhat cryptic, news, though.

Yep, don't see the problem with this at all. It's a reissue of an out of print album, so now people who don't have it will be able to buy it.

Isnt it legit to ask what the plan is? THats the real issue here? Why taking part in a podcast and giving to info at all.

That!

Well, I have a life besides Prince (music).

And that is AS imporant too.

Some I know have hundreds if not thousands of Prince bootlegs, same concerts in many different qualities.

I mean, really?

Though we have to respect these people more than ever.

They love to spend their life to it all.

So they can provide us the right jam, if we stay cool. smile

Well, hopefully it's not brickwalled or full of shitty transitions and cut-off song endings this time

Somebody said recently the tracks were sequenced beautifully, seamlessly on the album?!

But I don't see how songs like good love and crucial belong on the same set as those write-them-in-your sleep remixes.

I agree that the sequencing was excellent. It was one of the collections that really solidified my love of P's music. I wasn't super aware of different eras at the time, and it really flowed for me.

Whereas we old timers were pissed.
But it goes back to the love for the first cohesive bootlegs we got.

I love 90's Prince, but he's so radically different, miles away
from the eighties vibe that I can't truly reconcile both when moving
incoherently through era defining tracks.

I would either go on a binge of the 90's or the 80's, or the 00's and tens,
but I can't jump like that from song to song. Surely from album to album.
I need two or three song in the same vein, and then I want to spend an hour
with Prince in the same mood. Albums matter.

The CB's sequencing is going from mood to different mood to different mood,
without even some kind of thematic, aside from "Prince comes in all flavours".

It flows like a business card. Like a résumé.
"Impressive, but what are you looking for, exactly?"
"Anything. I can do this and this and this".

No more candy for me please,
I'll pass this time around.

They MUST remaster this collection of songs. It's great but the '80's tracks are now so loud they feel forced and are hard to listen to. "Sexual Suicide" nearly blows my ears off everytime it comes on in one of my playlists and I love the song. Let's hope there is this level of care with the Sony re-issues.

On the other hand, Prince would often pull songs out of the vault for use on his latest album, and I'm sure there are many occasions when we don't even know it happened.

I certainly had no idea that A Million Days was recorded in 1995 (and by the time of Musicology, my knowledge of Prince's music had expanded exponentially).

That, and the fact that while I'd had most of the 80's tracks on boots for years by 1998, it took me about a week to get used to them coexisting with the 90's tracks when I bought CB, and to admit that it flowed perfectly as some sort of party album. I'm still amazed to see that after 22 years, some of us haven't gotten used to it, but hey, regardless, CB was what it was and we all gotta live with it.

I do agree with you, but like you say, it's a very personal approach.

I think I ever listened to ''Crystal Ball'' once.

Today I will give it a spin again after 22 years, just to be sure what i'm nagging about.

I do remember that I rearranged the album to my personal taste.

to have three different albums. Burn it onto CDR's and copied the artwork.

So it would match my taste of the album.

-

Here, I found it on my old computer:

-

Album I :

1. Crystal Ball

2. Dream factory

3. Last Heart

4. Movie Star

5. Make Your Mama Happy

-

6. An Honest Man.

7. Sexual Suicide

9. Crucial

10. Good Love

11. Cloreen Bacon Skin

-

Album II :

1. Days Of Wild

2. 2morrow

3. Acknowledge me

4. What's My Name

5. So Dark

-

6. Interactive

7. Calhoun Square

8. Da Bang

9. Strays Of The World

10. Goodbye

-

Album III :

1. Pussy Control

2. Get Loose

3. Poom Poom

4. Ripopgodazippa

5. Love Sign

-

6. 18 & Over

7. Hide The Bone

8. Tell Me How U Wanna B Done

9. She Gave Her Angels

10. The Ride

-

For some reason I can't help it to keep splitting up albums in A sides and B-sides.

Old school ! wink
