If u feel ike dancin Prince on guitar??l Listening to 94 east and the guitar solos incredible. M it can't be prince cuz they playing some out there scale runs extremely fast and we all know prince was a pentatonic guitar player...it says prince and 94 east if this is Prince why didn't he ever plauthis fast and complicated on his own recordings? | |

well i guess "we all know part" is only on you. yes he played pentatonic but he played a lots of other stuff.never only pentatonic and answer to your question is yes its Prince on guitar on that jam | |

Prince is mixing pentatonic with dorian mode,mixolidian and phrygian along with lots of chromatic notes. He never used cliche box pentatonic patterns,he was always out of box.
West by Prince is mix of phrigian and lidian scale for example. Computer Blue is modal solo also. | |

I say Clapton is 90% pentatonic. Angus Young is 99% but Prince is not.Some people here get confused because they hear Prince play a blues phrase and they think oh yeah it's pentatonic but what they forget is what kind of musical(harmony) background is playing while Prince plays guitar solos.What plays in the back while you solo is what defines what you are playing.You may hear song in a minor and Prince is playing minor lick in E with e pentatonic here and there and what do you think that is? pentatonic?nope its Prince playing dorian mode Prince was much more clever than to play just pentatonic.Majority of his playing is dorian mode,sometimes lidyan(West ) phrygian (West) and other modes but majority of time Prince played dorian mode mixed with chromatic scale.
