It simply isn’t and the fact that folks are still trying to push this is tiresome. Jesus Christ. They and by they I mean Wendy and Lisa were on a lot of stuff during this time period. But on the finished album, they are on at most beautiful night. Strange relationship was reworked with their stuff mixed down and or out. No matter how you try to spin it it’s a Prince album. No more no less. That was the point. Not him being sad over a “fiancé” leaving or him having to get a new band. And please stop bringing up the one song he wrong about them in the mid 90’s.

I kind of think of the Revolution as something of a mindset (same with the Time) and I think SOTT would have been different if he had stayed in that mindset. I wouldn't write off the songs as "not" about the people around him though.

What do Wendy and Lisa have to do with We Can Fuck? Is that one not all Prince and David Coleman?

Wendy and Lisa are on that one too, and Jill Jones wih extra vocals

That's why they are credited on the Graffiti Bridge(George Clinton)-We Can Funk version, because he mixed in the 1984 We Can Fuck

Graffiti Bridge version

They said this is on that came out of the ATWIAD vibe

Wait, are they credited or uncredited??

They're credited on "We Can Fuck"... When it turned into "We Can Funk"(The Graffiti Bridge version), the tracks were re-used. It's obvious it's the same tracks, overdubbed. Thanks OF4S, I hope you & anyone else enjoyed that tracklist if they tried it. And if you happened to Google my band (which is really just me) Exiles of the Nation, thank you. The new album is called "Atlantic Ocean Black". I'm sure you'll dig something.

Anyway, those 8 tracks on that playlist I put together is an amazing listening experience IMO. For a "final" album hypothetically, it has everything the "Prince + The Revolution" era represented. It's part of the reason why I sometimes wish some of the unreleased deluxe edition tracks would've been put together as actual albums, because it would help with really appreciating the music for the general public, at least. (Possibly, who knows...) But that's obviously what the ability of making your own playlists are for though, so I get it.

I just wish some of the madness that comes with even mentioning The Revolution would cease to exist. I've been around here forever...What it says on here of when I joined isn't really correct. I remember when this place had a Black background & s***. And even before then, I was on alt.music.prince. I never imagined fans/fams would actually not like The Revolution. I guess it must've started after P's transition to his next life & of course they reunited. But damn...can you really imagine life without "Power Fantastic"? Those Parade Tour shows? "Around The World in a Fking Day"?!! Hell no, I couldn't anyway. After P passed, I would read what was going on here, but it was really tough, so I didn't post much.

I don't know, y'all. So much "Chaos and Disorder" everywhere. He was right. But nobody should let the current climate or whatever mess with our love for music, the reason why we were all inspired by Prince in the 1st place...Let's just enjoy the music. 'Cause nothing like this will ever be made again. And even if it could be or still is, you'd probably have to search for it because the current "mainstream" world would never promote it like they do what's "in" now. It would most likely remain "Obscure".

Much love and respect to all of y'all, and I'm glad this site still exists. Brings back alot of memories. (Good ones. Haha...)

Lol everyone thinks they have the perfect revolution album

I did a CD for my imagined last revolution album
I guess we can funk could be on there but it didnt fit the vibe
I was looking for songs that really sounded collaborative and were basically in that dream pop kind of vibe
Overtly funky stuff is brilliant ofc but the vibe he was going for on DF wasnt that really
It was more sophisticated, whimsical, playful, kind of stuff
He was really trying to absorb and use what wendy n lisa could offer
But ofc that vibe was wiped once it became crystal ball and then SOTT

That was a cool tracklist as well, what you originally posted funkbaby...Going back to what VainAndy spoke about on his post, I was just looking at tracks that could really make an impact now. When PR Deluxe was released, I was like, damn...This would be the perfect time to release "Wonderful Ass" as a single. Look at what is going on in "the mainstream" now. "WAP", the song of the year! ..Anything goes. So, a song like "Wonderful Ass" would've been still "relevant", whatever that means. It's explicit. It's funky. It still sounds futuristic, even now. An album with those 8 tracks I posted is very energetic. Just imagine if it was released and "PROMOTED properly" in a year or so after Prince's transition to the next life.

Obviously, the track "Power Fantastic" was released already, but still...it would've brought more notice and appreciation to those songs instead of them basically lost in the shuffle of so many other tracks released at the same time. For most of us, we've heard them for a while..but the "general public", they may have looked at "the album" as one of his best ever. With tracks like those, how could it not be? I'll add that with YouTube Reaction Videos being so popular now, the new generation are really picking up on the genius of Prince, finally. So, if that would've been released as a new album, you would've seen them reacting to those songs as new songs. Because they never heard 'em. They've barely heard the stuff that's been released since the 70s/80s, if they ever have at all! Everything comes back around again.

On the OP's main topic of discussion, I'd like to point out some things I haven't seen discussed. No, "Sign 'O' The Times" isn't a Revolution album...it could've been, but it ultimately wasn't. To me, it symbolically feels like the funeral or a memorial service for The Revolution. A tribute to that era.

For one... obviously on "Parade", the final track is about the character of Christopher Tracy passing away. The "Under The Cherry Moon" movie took place in France. So...what just happens to be the first lyric on "SOTT"? "IN FRANCE, a skinny man died of a big disease with a little name". It's an obvious continuation. The final three tracks of the album are very intertwined IMO. We got "The Cross", kind of a Christian Rock type thing ..and that leads to The Rev themselves coming back on "IGBABN"...almost like a flashback...a sign of remembrance. A tribute, practically. And it all ends with "Adore", which could be looked at as a love song...but musically, it feels like a Gospel song. Something that would be played at the end of a memorial service/funeral. It feels like a final goodbye. Even the final real music video shot with The Revolution is set in "Heaven"...so, that kind of speaks volumes.

And Two: Look at the album cover. It could be looked upon as Prince showing that he played all of the instruments, or a preview of the Sign O The Times live show set-up.
But it also could be looked at as this IMO. What are the three main instruments on the cover? Guitar, Piano/Keys, Drums. Since BrownMark already told P he was leaving supposedly a year earlier, and Dr. Fink stayed for SOTT. That leaves the three main members that Prince let go. Wendy: Guitar, Lisa: Piano/Keys & Bobby Z.: Drums. And on the cover, Prince looks like he's walking away from those instruments. Also, what did Prince do @ the end of the final P+The Revolution show in Yokohama? He threw multiple guitars to the floor...and the guitar is on the ground on the cover.

If it would've been released (hypothetically in '89), the "Power Fantastic" album playlist I posted would've been sort of like what Led Zeppelin did when they released 1982's "Coda", a collection of unreleased tracks 3 years after their proper final album 1979's "In Through The Out Door", which I've always believed Prince referenced on "Raspberry Beret". But damn, the more I listen to it...it's slowly becoming my favorite Prince & The Revolution "album"...Would've been a hell of a way to end the 80s.
