Those are just old quotes

It's pretty cool to be named on Eric Clapton's list but I have a bit of a bone to pick....why is it that Clapton gets this kind of default praise as the best? Yes, he is amazing but why is it a surprise to see Prince on lists like this? I"m baffled and surely Prince was too. Can you imagine Eric or Jeff Beck or any of those guys dance and play as joyously as Prince did? Prince did that as if he were just taking a stroll...it was 2nd nature. Meanwhile these guys look like scientists focusing on a microscope when they play.
I don't doubt Eric and the other greats are great....I know they are. However, I don't think a single one of them can be on the same stage as Prince. It happened once in 2004 and...look how that turned out

Don't mean to burst anyone's bubble but that quote isn't what Eric said.
Snopes has investigated the matter, and has determined it to be false. Apparently it's a variation of a similarly false quote attributed to Jimi Hendrix about both Irish blues musician Rory Gallagher and Christian guitarist Phil Keaggy.

It's boring isn't it? Every year someone has to correct this quote. What's next? Prince rumored to be playing Glastonbury?

That is great but I dont see what's special about Clapton's guitar skills? I mean he is good but nothing too special.
Now if somehow it was known that prince was one of Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarists,I would say hell yeah that's awesome. [Edited 12/15/20 19:50pm]

Jimi Hendrix respected Clapton; he's pretty good...more subdued, less of a showman.

Eric Clapton is the one soloing on While My Guitar Gently Weeps . . . so Prince was really tributing Eric Clapton in 2004, not George Harrison!

he was at the right place at the right time. With Cream he was part of invention of hard rock, heavy metal music. he did solid work on Blind Faith and Layla albums and live stuff but after 1970 until 1985 he was on autopilot. In 1985 Eric start to play more guitar, with a muscular guitar sound and a lot of effects which is unusual for him. this good phase lasted until 1991 and the next time he was interesting again is Pilgrim album and he was cool in 2001-2004 he played with a lot of balls again cause u know he married a young girl that is 34 years younger
