Likely the song 1999, but subconsciously. Let me explain: I became a real fan in 1984, when I was 15, after hearing and liking the hits WDC, LGC and PR. But in the months/years to follow, I started collecting the earlier LPs, and when I heard the song 1999, I realized that I already had heard that song earlier! It had been a minor hit in The Netherlands in late ‘82 and early ‘83, so I must have heard the song on national pop radio during that time, since I listened to that station a lot in those days. . The first one I heard was "1999", probably in 1983, but the first one that I really "noticed" and that made me pay attention was "When Doves Cry" when it was first released as a single. Heard a clip on TV and, well, that was that. First album was "Purple Rain", a few weeks later, on cassette. Can still remember lying on the floor, listening to it for the first time on my Walkman. |

FIrst song I remember hearing is 1999 and the first album I bought was 1999 because a friend in jr high told me about the lyrical content. I just HAD to hear 'fuck' as a lyric in my tween mind! But I also remember me and friends watching the 1999 and LRC vids on MTV. We thought that dude with the kamikaze bandana was 'BAD'! [Edited 12/21/20 5:47am] "I like to watch." | |

Not sure. When I was little I watched alot of his music videos "including Madonna" not knowing what album was out at the time. The Batman album was the first one I owned. | |
