2. The Max (kinda cheesy, but catchy as hell) 3. The Flow (I realize I'm in the minority for enjoying this song) 4. 7 (Accoustic Version... the album version is over-produced) 5. And God Created Woman (I agree with the person upthread who says this is the one song where Prince was simply trying to write a good song rather than trying to prove something) 6. The Sacrifice of Victor
I'm on the fence about a few other songs which I think are only okay. I'd pick from these to bring it up to 45 minutes and sequence it accordingly:

Damn U and Sweet Baby are among the worst song Prince ever wrote.

Sweet baby is beautiful. One of the few songs I believe where prince just writes about caring for another person without sex being involved.
Damn u is lovely but i wish the lyrics weren't just another damn baby you're so fine thing. I think I like extraordinary more. The best days of my life part of 3 chains... never fails to sound good for some reason. [Edited 12/14/20 23:26pm] [Edited 12/14/20 23:31pm]

Rod you're too much of a hard man. You need to embrace your softer side

In the 90s most albums became too long because of cds Diamonds and Pearl's, love symbol and gold were not immune.

I'm cutting it down to 37 minutes:

No kidding I wouldn't change a damn thing on this album. It rocks from start to finish.

But you knew that on CD you could skip songs you don't like? So in the end, I prefer that clunkers such as Damn U stay on the disc, because I skipped them so often, that when I listen to it, I m not that bored.

This is the album where I came in. It blew my mind with its versatility, its musicianship, its sense of fun and adventure, its cheekiness, its imagination, its balls-out craziness. You couldn't even pronounce its title!
I wouldn't change a thing about it... cutting it down is to entirely miss the point of its arc, its slim narrative and its adherence to excess. That excess and great depth and breadth are WHY the album works so well....
It's a brilliant album, through and through.

All of the above, and most of all.....that big, fat, warm, super sound. I just love the sonic quality of this album. That bass right at the beginning of And God Created Woman, the smoothness of Damn U, it just sounds so great.

See the many tracks you can't bear as extra bonus tracks, that is better to get than not, as a fan. . Even if it s to hear pieces of boring crap such as Damn U and Sweet Baby.

Ditch nothing. Keep everyone. One of his finest, most eclectic works. Top 5 album for me. (Insert something clever here)

It isn't mastered very well though, it sounds very compressed now that I took the effort to give it a spin. I am sure this album could sound better with a new mastering. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

No way. Its one the sexiest things Prince ever put on wax:
How you want to be done? Shall I go in a circle like the merry-go-round That you and your girlfriends used to ride all up and down Talk to me baby, (talk to me baby) Tell me how you want to be done (how you want to be done) Shall I write the alphabet, (A-B-C-D-E-F-G) Or shall I just write my name You tell me, you're the ruler in this telephone game I could be a slave (oh yeah) (slave) When it comes down to you I'll do any and everything you want me to do You know why? (why?) 'cause I want you to have fun So how you want to be done? (how you want to be done?) Baby, how you want to how you want to be done Just say the word and we can start from number one And go the distance baby, until you tell me stop I'll lose myself inside you till you get all I got Talk to me baby, tell me how you want to be done I want you to imagine you're making angels Angels in the snow And kiss a hundred revolutions nice n' slow Then I see you on the beat and do a def strip tease No, no leave the Chanel around your neck Please baby please Now do something I've never seen before (how you want to, how you want to be Crawl over to me on your stomach done) More baby more Now pull me down on top of you And grind really fast (tell me how you want to be done) Take both hands with all your might And squeeze my, yeah Roll me over 'til you're back on top Then I want you to kiss me until I make you stop That's how, that's how I want to be done (tell me how you want to be done)

I am also of opinion this album should have been shorter to be better working. So here we go:
Obviously dump all the skits immediately. Dump all the Tony M. bits. That feels mĆŗch better already! 2. Sexy MF 3. Love 2 the 9's 4. The Morning Papers 5. The Max 6. Blue Light 7. The Continental 8. Damn U 9. Arrogance 10. 7 11. And God Created Woman 12. The Sacrifice Of Victor
2. Sexy MF 3. Love 2 the 9's 4. The Morning Papers 5. The Continental 6. Damn U 8. 7 9. And God Created Woman 10. The Sacrifice Of Victor
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

We can try, we can try, but nothing can hide the fact that there just aren't many good songs on this album. My Name Is Prince, Sexy MF, The Max, I Wanna Melt With U, The Continental, The Flow, Arrogance: they're all about beats, grooves and poses and trying to be a big badass motherfucker. (Even though the band sounds great on Sexy MF.)
Love 2 the 9s is cool, I like how it changes in the middle of the song. The Morning Papers would have been nice if it had a better chorus than Shanananananana. And don't get me started on the "look ma, I can do reggae too!" and "look ma, I can do a rock opera too!" I don't know why, but he was trying to show off with this album and that's why everything feels so forced and overblown. Maybe because he realized that his days as an innovator were behind him and tried to make up for that by showing how many genres he could do and how great a musician he was? Or maybe because he thought, I have this great band behind me, I've got a big studio, I just had a hit album, I can do whatever the fuck I want! So what does that leave us with? Damn U, Sweet Baby and And God Created Woman are nice ballads. In The Sacrifice of Victor he is finally telling us a real story backed by some very funky music. Not much for a 70 minute album... [Edited 12/15/20 13:23pm] If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

basically this is right:
i love sweet baby for instance but actually, it feels underwritten. the max has some good piano pounding, but even that seems to not go anywhere. love 2 the 9s is cool for all the changes, but im not sure it adds up to that much. that said, i still enjoy this album. it has good riffs, prince is having fun, there are great band moments, some great vocals, but sometimes he seemed to lose interest in a song and coast on the band or his playing to keep the song going.
