if 0+-> was around 45 mins....

Never hated this album but it never had the highs of d&p.
Still think sexy mf is one of his worst songs (great jb instrumental though), never mind worst choice of first single.

Obv all the skits would go first

And then I'd chop it down to...

The max
Love 2 The 9s
Morning papers
Sweet baby
Blue Light
Sacrifice of victor
The continental
Damn u
Arrogance
7 acoustic mix
God created woman
3 chains of gold

Sexy mf and my name is prince would have been good b sides
Same for eye wanna melt with u
Weird that of all the reggae songs he tried, the only one he released was the worst of them all blue light which recycles do me baby
The flow would be better on an npg album

Better album than DP and you lost ALL credibility by removing the forever funky Sexy MF from the album. šŸ˜

Sexy mf is one of his dumbest songs lol
Also counting against it is...
It's his most derivative song (well it was in 92)
The lyrics arebt actually very sexy

Like musicology, itd be better without the verses
If it was just a vamp type thing

Love this album but I would have removed a couple of tracks: "Eye Wanna Melt With U" and "The Sacrifice Of Victor".

"Three Chains O' Gold" would be the closing song.It feels like the big finale track.

I agree, he lost ALL credibility smile Much better album than D&P. I wanna Melt with U is sickkkk. I think he released the wrong version of My Name is Prince. There is a great outtake of it that blows away the version he put on the album.

prince is a great album. With Tony M. removed, it's shorter in parts. I also remove "Arrogance" and the segues, and resequenced any songs that need it. (I also cut down "The Continental" to remove "Tell Me How U Wanna Be Done.")

Doesn't put it at 45 minutes, but it's more cohesive and quicker. Not that I'm trying to rush it. It's a favorite record. That album got me through poverty and cosmetology school in 1993 (as did janet.).

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Lol

Sexy mf is a novelty song.
My name is prince is a bart Simpson song (though it's fun in a big dumb way)
Eye wanna melt with u shouldve been a b side
The flow is a good band workout but ugh the rapping
Blue light is a poor reggae rework of the melody of do me baby

Sexy MF reached the top ten, so you can hardly call it a poor choice for a single. But that had a lot to do with the buzz that the D&P tour created; the single was released during the tour, which more or less became a promotion for the upcoming album as it went along. Once the tour was over, the buzz was over and the album didn't do much. And when he toured America the next year, all the talk was about the name change.

Funny. Sacrifice is one of the few tracks I like on this album. The kitsch of 3 Chains is one of the worst parts of it.

In the states it went nowhere on the charts.
Anyway chart positions mean nothing.
Plenty of terrible songs have sold well.
If only I was your girlfriend didnt do that well as a single. Does that make it a lesser song? I dont think so.

It makes no sense as the last song.
It feels like a bonus track that way.
Its def overproduced. But I like it.
3 chains is a great final song even though it is overblown lol

This is def his most 90s album
Corny raps, record scratching, bad attempts at edginess, trying to sound hard saying things like npg in mass attack, trying to be gangsta with that gun looool

Wow. You took off the good songs. As an album symbol is much better than d&p.

Cut Tony M from My Name is Prince and itā€™s brilliant. I had to do my own edit.

I say lose Arrogance, 3 chains (awful, just awful), Melt and Blue light and itā€™s perfect

if sexy mf and MNIP are the best songs on here, this album has a problem

note that on the final tour, the only song from this album that he played (IIRC) was the max (which sounded great on piano actually)

Whats different about the outtake version? Personally I'm in the minority and actually really like the single edit of My Name is Prince. it was the perfect stab off contrast to the last two singles off Diamonds and Pearls.

No idea how anyone can think this album is better than d&p.
Crazy talk.

Shame he never played sexy mf or name is prince as an acoustic guitar or solo piano tune.
Might have made it fresh.

I agree."The Sacrifice Of Victor" feels like an added-on bonus track.

"Three Chains O' Gold" feels like the complete finale to this album.

I can't believe people are ditching And God Created Woman. It's a timeless classic IMO.

It's one of my favourite albums so I wouldn't change anything. Maybe apart from the segues

Along with the "Gold Experience", probably his best album of the 90s in my opinion. It was his best album since "Sign O' The Times. I would probably only remove the raps if I could.
We're here, might as well get into it.

sacrifice is also totally diff to the rest of the album, i love the steeles on it, but its got so much going on in it, even more than any of the other songs, and this is an album that was one of the busiest that prince released.

It's not one of my favourite albums, but this song is one of my few favourites on this album that is otherwise full of jams, raps, beats, noise, look ma, I can do reggae too, hey, look ma, I can do a rock opera, oops, I forgot to write some real songs just because I was too busy with being cool and being up to date and trying to get a piece of that shit hop money, no wonder I'm changing my name, I don't know who I AM anymore and I'm going to blame WB!
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

lol

it is true sadly.

i regard this album fondly as i loved it at the time, but a lot of songs are more about the arrangements, and the band switching gears in each song, than the actual songs.

sweet baby is one of the best things he did on it though, one of his most caring songs.

i do actually like blue light but theres something so cheesy about it. maybe its the sax. its like bad reggae for a jamaican cruise tv commercial.

There are some really great and beautiful songs on this album but it was marred by that weird storyline and concept, and some of the lyrics were a bit irritating on some songs. I like the music and vocal delivery of I Wanna Melt With U but the lyrics of him taking a girlĀ“s virginity or the underage references in Morning Papers take a bit away from the enjoyable music.

I think The Sacrifice of Victor is one of his most autobiographical songs and should definitely be left on the album. IĀ“d much rather get rid of My Name Is Prince and Sexy MF but many people really liked those songs back then.

It has aged badly but the album does contain some really strong songs that still sound good today, such as Damn U, 7 and the wonderful And God Created Woman. Sweet Baby is another gem.

" IĀ“d rather be a stank ass hoe because IĀ“m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! IĀ“m always funny dude...IĀ“m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I like both of them a lot but both also couldĀ“ve been so much better with just a few changes, and both would sound less dated without the silly skits and operator segues. I understand that that was part of the whole concept but I never liked the end result on either album.

But yes, these are definitely two of his strongest 90s albums.
