Best linn drum programming 1999-2015

We often praise linn beats from the golden era,but what about the stuff

Prince did after he started using linn again in 1999(Rave was the first new album since 1990 to have LM1 again. )

So which LM1 drum patterns you find interesting from 1999 up to his last use (2015 )

My list is

Black Sweat

Beginning Endlessly

What Do U Want Me 2 Do

Future Baby Mama

Box Of Chocolates (even though i'm not sure if he just used samles of linn on this 1 but the drum beat is memorable and i can recognise it without other instrumentation

i would like to hear "SexMe?SexMeNot" with a Linn.

Other than that,

"Jukebox With A Heartbeat" is pretty good!

Nice beats just like Box Of Chocolates the example i mentioned but maybe we are cheating cause i think complete MPLSSound is all samples of linn but not the real linn,20Ten is real linn though.

That was actually a pre-existing beat taken from a software package
. Somebody provided an online link to it at the time.

Call me cynical but I reckon he was probably using Linn samples for that time period - why bother busting out the machine when it can be done in a few seconds on a computer? Prince was all about efficiency in the studio. Everything sounds a little more digital than on the eighties records.

I think Jukebox With A Heartbeat was his best Linn effort post 80s. That beat just has the feeling and doesn't sound like the then current Prince playing old Prince, like MPLSound did. Props N Pounds sounded pretty authentic too. Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do was legit.

Some of the Linn efforts on 20ten are cool, like Lauvaux, Sticky Like Glue, and Beginning Endlessly, but they don't sound quite the same, though better than MPLSound did imo.

If Prince understood that many people think he is Jimi Hendrix of Linn drum than maybe he would have dedicated more time in expanding his experimentation with linn.

I think that from 1981 Prince start to grow fascination with his new toy,

and you can see that actually did spend a lot of his time exploring the Lm1.

But as the 80s decade was reaching the 90s it seemed like Prince lost interest in Linn.

Listen to Schoolyard, that linn pattern is a far cry from his earlier glory days.

So in a way it was time to ditch the linn, but i think he went back way too late when he started using it again.

By the late 90s Prince was more conserned with making songs than about which tools he used.

Imagine Emancipation with the linn? i know it sounds crazy but i bet the songs would sound more interesting.

If he knew what he means in the world of drum programming Prince could have done much more experimentation with linn drum.He did push linn drum to unseen examples before him,but i don't think he explored it until the limits cause Linn lm1 with all the tuning and tweeking have endless options.

uhh it might've been more logical to maybe develop proficiency at a newer drum machine... or, like, virtually any different drum machine. His linn throwbacks sound exactly like that--like trying to recapture/evoke the past, because past '87 it's very very dated tech.

.

He kept up with changes/evolutions in literally like every other venue except his drum programming... I agree what he did was legendary, but, it's almost like he never even tried to bother again, yet still incorporated digital drums regularly usually programmed by Kirky J. or someone else...

I like the Linn programming on What Do You Want Me To Do?

Ps that Sheila Linn beat is called 'Linn Drum Track' and I believed it was from an '80s 12" bonus track - but I could be totally wrong!

Black Sweat and Jukebox With A Heartbeat are my favorites from that era. I wish the latter would become available again, I had a NPGMC copy from back in the day but lost it unfortunately when my old laptop crashed.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

rebirth of the flesh.

idk why he lost interest in using drum machines after the late 80s himself, by and large.

i think he didnt think his touch would be current enough.
