Was the 3 Chains of Gold movie ever released on dvd or Blu Ray? IMDb says the entire movie has yet to be released. Mayte Said in her book there is unreleased outtakes from the 7 video. We didn’t get anything for the album’s 25th anniversary. Ya know next year is the 30th for Diamonds & Pearls. I’d pay good $ for a hologram super deluxe. Nope - only on VHS. After reading Neal Karlen's biography and reading Ready Player Two, I would LOVE to re-watch this in high quality. I doubt we'll see a Bluray release, though... Maybe YouTube?

Not officially, but it's circulating digitally.

. Was it recorded on film? Or video tape? In case of the latter you can forget HD video. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I don’t think I’m aware of any music videos filmed on like vhs tape if that’s what your talking about. For example the 7 video cost 2 million $ [Edited 12/12/20 8:26am] Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird.

3 Chain's of Gold was released on laserdisc in Japan back in 1994 and is the source for the digital rips that have been cirulation for nearly 20 years.

Isn't the japanese version censored?

I have it on laserdisc (official release) which is much better quality than VHS, but not as good as DVD. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

. So? That's still SD, i.e. at most DVD quality. . Even if these were filmed on film, and not analog tape, they weren't edited on film. So even if the actual film footage (all of it) has been kept and stored properly, they'd need to digitize it and then re-edit it (and apply similar-looking SFX) to obtain a HD result of that video. Which ain't gonna happen because it is stupidly expensive (go read about the ST:TNG HD remake and how it cost a fuckton of money and never made that money back). And also: chances are minimal that raw footage was kept and stored properly. . This should have been done decades ago. I bet there would have been boutaque labels who would have released all that video in his vault on DVD. But instead he teased us with things like the Montreux footage and didn't even follow through on that even though Eagle Rock has released tons of such releases with great success and would have gladly handled that for him (but I bet they didn't want to pay him the stupid money he asked). © Bart Van Hemelen

Maybe the movie could be included with other Prince Movies as a Deluxe set for fans to buy!
I need to buy the "Under The Cherry Moon" Movie DVD too!. The last time I watched that movie, I was a teenager, and I borrowed the VHS from my friend Stephanie. [Edited 12/13/20 13:45pm]

Not sure what you believe, but yes, it uses an analog video track that is twice the resolution of VHS. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

No, it's considered SD, and not as good as DVD (which is also just SD standard definition). My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Let´s forget about the technical details for a second....who would really want to buy this? I understand the desire to preserve or re-release it for prosperity in some manner but I don´t really see a market for this. The die-hard fans already have it and the new fans have probably downloaded it already. The storyline didn´t make much sense on the album and the "film" didn´t really make it any better. It was cringey then and is even more cringey now. But they even re-released the Rave into the Year 2000 video so what do I know? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

That a digital rip isn't 1:1 because the source isn't digital. RIP

. Which already existed as a DVD master so there was zero cost. Hell, even if they didn't have a master they simply could rip an existing DVD bit for bit and then create a new master from that. . Digitizing an analog source and then preparing it for a DVD release is a costly matter. . "Ah, but they did that for the 1987 NYE concert!" Sure, but that is an important historical document, plus it was part of the effort for a deluxe box set and they even sourced alternate footage to improve on the existing recording. . Will 3COG or TSOV ever be released on DVD? Possibly, likely as part of the album they accompany. Then again, Sony/Legacy didn't even spend a dime on a DVD release for Beautiful Strange and only put lo-fi clips on YouTube, so don't get your hopes up. © Bart Van Hemelen
