When did LoveSexy become so loved? Just out of curiosity.

When, throughout the 90s & the 00s, it became increasingly clear, that the end of Prince's golden decade was cemented by Lovesexy. And not a single recording Prince made afterwards, could match the brilliance of that period. Even though the signs of his creative demise were littered all over Lovesexy, as it turned out. When it was released! If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

- Indeed when it was released. Here in Europe, everyone was wild about that album and the following tour. There were the wordly famous aftershows in Europe during the Lovesexy Tour, that says enough. And, the album also grew over time. Most USA fans I heard/know, say Prince's highlight was up till 1987. The squeamish behavior of American stores not to show that album cover was also quite a setback for the publicity of that album. Most European fans I know often say he was on the top of his game and still inovative till 1988. Some even include 1989 (Batman). - From 'Grafitti Bridge' on (+the movie), all went a bit downhill concerning the general interest. Therefor 'Lovesexy' is often looked at as his last coherent & strong inovating album. - [Edited 1/29/21 3:00am] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. i think it was always seen as a great album, and even more so after the tour.
in retrospect though, its the last great album from his classic period, but also a bit overrated i think? i love the energy of it, but with all the 'born again' evangelical positivity, i wonder if it was a bit contrived? OTOH, it does have a genuine feeling of inspiration, but underneath that, it somehow feels a bit rushed. glam slam and IWUH only have one verse. several songs seem not totally developed (dance on, positivity).
its kind of on the same level as the black album, its got something magnetic about it, but if you analyse it, you can see its not really been that well crafted/written (compared to SOTT), he just piled a lot of layers on top.
black album, love sexy, batman, all of them like they were done very quickly.

For me, lovesexy is the amalgamation of everything Prince has done before. And also the end of his first phase of his career. It was my first Prince LP and for me it's my religion

I became a Prince fan after the "1999" album was released, but "Lovesexy" turned that fandom into a 30+ year obsession.

Lovesexy the live show is 10x better than the album Tragic/stupid he never released it as a live album.

I was a 22 year old nobody in the middle of the Bible Belt in the United States, and "Lovesexy" knocked me for a loop. I listened to it non-stop throughout the summer. The Lovesexy Show in Charlotte was my first Prince concert, and still my favorite. . "Lovesexy" is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite Prince album. (Depending on my daily mood...)

Prince is the only artist I know that has songs that sound better LIVE than on the album. It is usually the other way around with most singers.

Lovesexy was a favorite of the critics, maybe even more than SOTT if that's possible. I don't think it really connected in the US, but Alphabet Street, Glam Slam and I want to say When 2 R in Love, were definintely around. That was the beginning of him leaning towards his European audience.

not really. yeah he was great live, but for most of his best years, the studio albums were still great, the live shows just added something extra. after a certain point, it became that the albums werent special, but the live shows meant it didnt matter so much. on the lovesexy tour, it was like the perfect end/climax to his 80s run, literally as he played maybe his greatest medleys ever, of all his greatest 80s songs up to that point. it was also with arguably his tightest, finest band, and the best stage design and most imaginative choreography to date. a real peak of peaks.

- All true. Compare all that with the next Nude Tour... Which kinda felt poor. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Lovesexy has always been loved by me. I didn't get to that album until I was in highschool around 2010. I can understand the mixed bag reaction for those who experienced it in real time. IMO it works as a singular experience and should be listened to as a whole. Individually the tracks are strong but I wouldn't have minded a couple more Black Album tracks (Superfunky, Rockhard/LeGrind) to be thrown in there to shake shit up. - It's a fantastic record, but not his last and honestly I think we can retire the '79-88 golden years agenda. He made great records post-Lovesexy. While his consistency wavered - especially in the 90's - he was still an ever changing artist and I just don't see the point in harping on this point. - Again, I was not there to experience his 80's/90's heyday, the only real time Prince fandom that I was old enough to be immersed in was the mid-late 2000's. I just saw each project as another piece to the puzzle.

I like Walk-in' in Glory better than Positivity as an album closer.

So, don't get bent if people question your intentions. You clearly aren't here to have a dialogue about Prince, the musician as a whole, if you've discarded everything he did post-Sign o' the Times as subpar and not worth the time. With that already out in the ether, why would you want to know what people think of post-SOTT stuff when you've already made it clear what YOU think of post-SOTT stuff?

Everything did suck after the 80s. Get over it. Also so what if I've been here for a short amount of time lol. Get over it [Edited 1/29/21 12:16pm]
