What is your favourite version of Bambi?

What is your favourite version of Bambi? kind of obsure track that was always a win when performed live.

What version(s) you like the best?

my pick

Bambi The Undertaker

Bambi Paisley Park 2002 Celebration (full song ,maybe you need to bleed part as well)

Bambi first avenue 1982 -punk version ,same version performed at the infamous The Rolling Stones gig.

P.S. those of you fellow orgers who witnessed the song performed live, how was the crowd reaction?

I remember listening to i think Paris 2002 aftershow and when Prince launched into that riff some guy was screamimg like he is having the best orgasm of his life lol smile

That "punk" version was a really great surprise. I enjoyed it.

My only issue with that song is his falsetto. It's too high on a rock song. Sing it in a normal register. It'd be a ripper.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think he used falsetto to Princefied it .Anyway on the Rolling Stones gig he did this same Punk version with normal voice.no falsetto on that one.but the audio quality of Stones gig is terrible.Anyway on 1982 First Avenue soundboard he sings second verse in his normal chest voice

He sure did - sat 20 June 1992! Earls Court London. Remember it vividly. First show of his I went to. Great hard rock performance with lots of strobe lighting.

I like the 3EG version where he broke it down and sang the 3rd verse in his lower register. It was a special moment to see it up close in Manchester Academy in 2014.
.
But if I had to pick one it would be The Undertaker version

Is there a version that doesn’t have the silly trope of lesbians only liking women because they haven’t had a man and don’t know what they’re missing? No? Then fuck that song.

You know i don't believe that Prince wanted song to be taken in that sense.Bambi is a song about young guy being desparate for a girl he can't have.Because of that Prince is frustrated and when he says it's better with a man is because he wants her to have self doubt. It doesn't mean Prince is saying lesbians are lesbians cause they haven't find the right man,it's just in this case Prince is "the man".Because Bambi continues to refuse Prince his frustration grows further and he sings I know what you need, maybe you need to bleed.I don't Prince wants to kill her though.

When Prince says she needs to bleed he’s talking about taking her virginity. The implication, of course, is that lesbian have their hymens because they haven’t been with a man - otherwise they’d not be lesbians. It’s ridiculous. Of course he was young and he maintained a lot of childish beliefs up till his death. I appreciate your view, but making a woman bleed in regards to sex means to strip them of virginity.

They should do a new pressing of the classic Disney movie but only this time, replace whatever Disney music they play at the intro or credits and insert prince's song bambi in its place.

thank u Steak. You know maybe Prince is childish on Bambi, but isn't it great that he allow his imperfection, his honest frustration to be displayed.Cause a lot of times we say and do things that are in the heat of the moment.

And before i also shared a thought of Bambi being better with a normal voice, but actually that falsetto that is at breaking point when he shrieks Bambi embelished the song.

There is a lot of testosterone in the guitar riffs, but singing brings a dose of androgeny
