But I wonder.. Maybe She's Always In My Hair is about his hair stylist?

Not that you can ever pick a favorite song, but if I had to, it would be She's Always in my Hair. It makes me speechless it's so beautiful. And I loved when I heard "Just as Long as We're Together" and heard, "Girl I got to always have you in my hair, cos I'll always have you in my heart." This used to make me so giddy--reference to my future favorite song! Yes, Prince.

His hair stylist at the time was Jill Jones uncle Earl Jones. Not a she.

Also Jill Jones talked about when Prince presented the song to her and how she was upset by the lyrics. It's actually not a 'compliment'

one of Prince's best songs if he had put this song on ATWIAD,it would have been the absolute highlight of that album.

Definitely taking her for granted which was too bad as she was an alluring, talented woman.

She has never shaken his influence on her, IMO.

Had he lived, I think he would have gotten there in his later years, because I do think he was thinning, which is why he started wearing the fro again...it helps to cover thinning and baldness.

Definitely. He's describing her as a convenient nag and not just his safety net but more like a yes man.

Plus Prince being Prince, her being in his hair also has some sexual innuendo.

She talked about when Prince stopped any further delving into a relationship between the Kid and Jill in the movie Purple Rain. He did the song Wednesday for her for the movie, but something happened and he walked in on Albert and Jill working out the scene and said cut it

The fact that he never put this on an album is beyond belief. In my opinion 'She's Always In My Hair' would have made a better A-side than any of the 'ATWIAD' era singles.

Agree with you, it's such a good song it deserved to be in an album.

Agree with you, it's such a good song it deserved to be in an album.

Probably would have got the Purple Rain comparisons he was trying to avoid with the flange'd drums and rock guitar... He was making a statement with ATWIAD and the hypothetical inclusion of SAIMH dilutes it...

"Deserved"... it was released prominently... Arguably more prominently in terms of legacy as a top-tier B-side to a hitsingle than on an album many fans underrate/pop40 fans dismiss...

That's the cynical way to look at it. The lyrics tell us she was also that positive voice that helped get him through the self-doubt and uncertainty that comes with being an artist. It seems like he didn't know how to accept her love/devotion and didn't know what to make of her. Insecurity (and with his upbringing one couldn't blame him) might make one question that somebody can love you like that.
