But the OP is right. There's precious little out there that actually documents Prince's process and I'd never really thought about it much before but it would be cool to see. If the estate has any footage of something like that, it might make for a good DVD extra or something on a future release. Maybe if they do anything with the Batman album.

It is entirely probable there is footage, lots of it, in fact, we just haven't seen it. Don't forget there was a video vault also. Prince had documented his life for years.

Yes there is a lot of video footage in the video vault,

but my guess is it's mainly live performances and possibly rehearsals,

unseen movies/short movies (Madhouse, The Second Coming, etc),

video clips of Prince and protégées,

maybe some fun things too, like Judith Hill who locked him outside

and maybe some fun video's with the first NPG...

But him alone in the studio ? I doubt it,

...knowing well he did not wanted anyone around when he did his vocal part.

Just sayin'.

I'm actually a little curious here.

I think Prince had security cameras in a lot of places and was given to recording spontaneously quite a bit. I bet he filmed his process more than we'd think. I'd bet dollars to donuts that there's a decent amount of footage of him at work to some extent or the other with various artists and across a lot of songs and I'd get a kick out of seeing it. I'd love to see him running overdubs and his sequencing process since we know he recorded a lot of songs by himself and laid the instruments over others to build a song.

I stay with my thoughts that it IS very very strange (bizarre ven) that we never saw him ''at work'' in the studio. No live recording of guitar playing, no paino recording, no drum playing (just 30 seonds do excist) etcetera etcetera.

Like we have quite some footage of The Beatles for example ''in the studio, at work''.

Prince, a guy who recorded a few thousand songs in his life, and no footoage of him playing ... something live in the studio ??!! Still utterly weird if you ask me.

Didn't they say that the security cameras weren't recording to tape and that he had all that ripped out in later years?

The security cameras were there right till the end. P had them disabled not long before his passing. No, that wasn't Kirk Johnson, nor were they tampered with by the authorities, or by any P associates, past or present. Though it can't be ruled out, laurarichardson or nursev ran off with them.
