I just listened to the first two episodes of Superchuckamania by Captain and Playa, just to know if they said anything about Peach & Black. And they kind of did, indirectly. My take is that each episode of Peach & Black was very, very time-consuming. For everybody, but I guess especially for Captain (editing) and Playa (polls). Another thing I heard is that they like making podcasts and interacting with their listeners / getting feedback. So I guess that means they didn't get that with Peach & Black? Or not as much as they wanted? . I guess I see where they're coming from, but I still think it's a pity. They could have stuck to shorter, less frequent episodes. For SDE boxsets, they could have stuck to the vault material. And if money was a motivation (I still don't understand what they tried to achieve with Peach & Black Plus), then they should have tried Patreon. I would have given them my money. Really. I'm already supporting a dozen of creators there.
.
And I don't agree with the idea (was it Captain saying this?) that people don't have the attention span needed for longer podcasts. Most podcasts I'm listening to are long. I mean, Joe Rogan has 4-hour or 5-hour long episodes and he is highly successful.
.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling. The lesson for me here is: 1) when you like/love something somebody does, tell them 2) when you enjoy something, enjoy it like it could be the last time you're experiencing it (this is an important lesson from the Stoics).

Thanks for taking the time to listen and letting us know what they said.
This reinforcing the idea that they simply weren't into it anymore. Which is a perfectly legitimate reason to stop. I won't begrudge them for that. But if this is the case, it's silly to suggest "forced beyong our control" made them stop. I don't consider a lack of enthusiasm to be a outside force making it impossible for them to produce a goodbye show.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they couldn't have just issued a brief statement 6 months ago, when they made their decision, saying that they were giving up. Many people were eagerly waiting their SOTT SDE review (and possibly still are) which was never coming.
.
I don't believe that they've still offically said that they're giving up, and while there's no compulsion for them to do it, it does seem that they're treating their loyal followers with disdain, while continuing to ask us to vote for them in polls.
.
However, I'm exremely thankful for the ones that they've done, and they certainly increased my knowledge and enjoyment of Prince and his music, and it was by far my favourite podcast of any genre. |

Wow. This is so, so disappointing. I'm sad. Really. I've spent countless hours listening to that podcast. Over the years, I've listened to all the episodes, except maybe one or two.
.
They were fun. They were clever. They were insightful. They were not afraid to say critical things, even when Prince was alive. I don't want to say bad things about the other podcasts/channels, but Peach & Black was certainly unique in that sense.
.
A new Peach & Black episode was always a nice surprise for me. It would brighten up my day. Really. I am not exaggerating.
.
So, yeah, maybe I should have told them that before... Anyway, if they decide that's the end, then so be it. I'm really grateful for everything they did.
.
They don't owe us anything. That's right. But it would be nice if they gave at least a hint about what happened. Ending the podcast with an episode about non-album tracks is a bit anticlimactic. Especially given their name and the recent release of SOTT SDE.
.
Does it have anything to do with the Peach & Black Plus version of their podcast? Did it fail to meet their expectations? I guess so. I see that Playa closed his Twitter account... Captain/Toejam are still (somewhat) active on Prince.org... Anything you might want to say about this topic will be appreciated.

Same here, the show also made my day many times. Definitely shocked and saddened by its ending and so abruptly. I checked day after day 4 a new episode, then finally decided 2 ask about it here on the org. |

Sad to see it go. And especially when they could have reviewed a bunch of vault tracks, a number of which they have probably known for years but avoided talking about because they were bootlegs. |

None of those do the same things P&B did. They would take apart songs, analyzing the instrumentation and arrangements in detail. Deep dives. It was like listening to a football coach go into hyper detail about the Xs and Os of a game.
They weren't concerned with the soap opera or gossipy parts of Prince's life, except an occassional mention when Prince's private life affected his lyrics. And they sure as heck didn't care about his fashion or crap like that. Their podcast was the nuts-and-bolts of the music. Period.
One guy was a musico (a music teacher, in fact) and another guy was an audio engineer, so they were qualified to do those deep dives.

.
100% facts right there
.
there's a reason Prince liked Peach and Black so much, listened to their show for 12 years, even flew them from Australia to NYC to meet him, I don't recall Prince doing that for any other podcasters or youtubers
.
Prince obviously respected them for talking about the music and not all the crap that other people focused on
.
People seem to be forgetting the actual FACTS

I must say one of the key things I was looking forward to after digesting SOTT SD was the ultimate Peach & Black review. I love the guys podcast and have listened to them faithfully for years. The manner in which the show eneded seemed akward and unfortunate - not a fitting end publically for such a great product. Anyway I am just being selfish now but I would have loved to have heard their review of what I consder to be the greatest Prince release to date, the SOTT SD. Good luck guys, thanks for all the great shows! |
