Hornz Hornz Hornz! Horns? I them!
I think, from the Parade shows onwards, Prince's desire to be seen as the ultimate musician/band-leader is clear. They're SUCH a vital part of Prince's music. Think how many Prince songs benefit from Eric Leeds/Atlanta Bliss/Candy Dulpher/Maceo Parker/Greg Boyer/Hornheadz's input. When I hear songs like 'Housequake', 'Sexy MF', 'Superfunkycalifragisexy' and 'It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night' - man, stay away from me! I wanna tear it up! Do you think this was a natural progression for Prince - taking the soul/funk template, as set by James Brown? And do you ever wish he'd hooked up with the above musicians many years before? I know it's hypothetical, but I often wonder what tracks off the first few albums would sound like with REAL horn parts, as opposed to synth lines. Any favourite musical moment? Sorry, you can tell how bored I am!
My favourite 'horns' part, at the moment, is on the live, movie, version of 'It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night' (thanks Camille4U!). That bit, towards the end - where it just goes all crazy - Christ almighty! | |
