I mean, it was Prince's last fully-realized concept album and, without question, the strongest thing he'd done since Lotusflow3r. Funny. I like the two songs you don't like and I can't stand Breakfast Can Wait, but still, I agree with you about AOA! If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

sure, theres a handful on each, its just that, for fans, i think a lot of them will be enjoyable, but to convince someone outside, that prince was still making great material in this period, idk how convincing a lot of these loooooong playlists would be. thats what i was thinking when i made my post about a 90s playlist - trying to convince an outsider, rather than just a playlist of songs for fans to play for other fans.
i want to play catch up, but idk if i can bring myself to properly sit through a lot of these songs. there is a lot of music in the world to listen to.... [Edited 11/16/20 15:54pm]

That's a pretty good list right there. I'd make a few deletions struckthrough and additions in bold.

This is pretty good. But I would add Revelation, Look at Me Look at U, X's Face, Black Muse, and When She Comes. I still think it fits on 1 CD.

Frankly, the 2010 era was terrible in term of albums. I would even say 2007/2016, but that's not the topic here.
. I like 2010 for the Price (3.4€), but it was sold in only 5 countries and really feel like " This is a for-free album, so I don't care". By far the best song on it is an hidden track! Lousy Concepts inside other lousy concepts... . Then came, after a welcomed 4 years of absence ( or 8 years since 3121 was his last album in traditional stores), two average albums with again lousy concepts ( Plectrum Electrum was labelled as a rock album when half the songs are not). . Why not make it the best tracks of both albums into only one, to make it just...a good album? . The Hit and run albums were a joke too. You make a follow-up to an album ( as McCartney 3 lately) when the first album was a commercial success and, or at least, a critical acclaim. Hit n Run was neither of the two. It sold 17.000 copies worldwide the week of release and was dissed by the critics and by the fans as his worst non instrumental album ever. . But then, he releases the follow-up just months after. While there are good songs on it, there was clearly a lack of coherence and editing in the umpalatable tracklist, with songs that were already released years beforebefore, a strange order of the songs...( worst openers ever). . Why didn't he chose the best tracks out of the 2 Hitnrun, to try to make it the best album possible? . [Edited 11/16/20 21:47pm]

Agree with rod
Hit n run is one side prince trying to sound like an American bar room band. The other side is prince trying to compete with Katy Perry and other artists 30 years younger. Embarrassing. [Edited 11/16/20 23:05pm] I def think theres some good songs in this period but some of the lists I'm seeing seem to barely leave any songs from this decade out lol [Edited 11/17/20 0:32am]

Might be why I dont totally get 7. The political or social message type songs I like are SOTT , money dont matter and maybe thats it? Musically I love free, America, ronnie talk to Russia, though not sure of the politics. Act of God isnt bad. Tbh, and maybe I'm being unfair but I never really found much conviction in princes later political songs. To me, the racial politics in his music was literally IN the music What he played and how he wanted to be seen as a black artist outside of traditional black genres, that was political. So black muse, avalanche, or even family name (I prob like FN most as a song), theres something missing for me. Princes political worldview was never that coherent or well formed in my view. It's not like gil Scot heron, or curtis Mayfield, or sly stone even, or George Clinton. Or going younger, d'angelo (devils pie or charade). With them , you knew who they were, with prince I felt like he was trying to be something he wasnt, ie a radical politico. He was a radical thinker in other ways like his ideas on distribution, musical segregation, touring, etc. But not much beyond that. or maybe i just dont want to see prince as that kind of figure? i have other people for that already. [Edited 11/17/20 5:06am] [Edited 11/17/20 6:11am] I think RNR Love Affair is pretty mild but I also like it. I'd say I love it, tbh. Actually I like almost all of your list, even Tictactoe and most people hate that one.

Rnr love affair has a little take me with u type melody running through it
Going through these tracks i noticed that for me at least while hearing prince play guitar or knock out a straight up no frills rocker like screwdriver is ok, as he got older his faster, harder and funkier songs no longer cut it for me. I preferred his more melodic, mellower songs. [Edited 11/17/20 7:12am] [Edited 11/17/20 7:13am]

It's been said Walk In Sand could be on a tampon commercial. It's lost it's appeal since. . Surely Free Urself should make your list. . And yes maybe give HNR 2 anothor go. Only negative at the time of release was the fact we had half of it already but there is a lot of strong tracks on it. Revelation and Look At Me are top notch IMO

tbh a lot of songs from this period were cheesy screwdriver, wow, etc, all cheesy AF so ok, walk in sand might sound like a tampon commercial but these other songs, supposedly less corny, sound like beer commercials. anyway, its wrong. if it does sound like a tampon commercial, well hey, let me buy some good tampons.
i almost included valentina but he just sounds horny and desperate (in a bad rather than risque way). worse when you know hes actually addresing salma hayeks daughter. wtf lol.
