No offence Calhoun Sq... but I don't care either how he treats bandmembers and ex-wives, etc, because that is THEIR business. But I do care if he continuously rips off his most loyal fans, who he tempts with all kinds of promises. They trusted him enough to give him lots of money in advance. Well...if he fucks that up, then that IS a fan's business. To me, he has shown his fans that he is a man you can't trust; apparantly not in personal relationships, but definitly not in business relations. If it weren't for my boots I think I really would get tired of Prince. I play my boots 99% of the time I listen to Prince music. All my friends are astonished when they hear songs that weren't released that are so funky. They always ask me is why Prince never put this out. All I say is I don't know. Good NESS, the man is a perfectionist control freak - extreme for everyday folk but not uncommon for geniuses who achieve all that he has. It is more common among "geniuses", but it is still not normal, still a painfull and serious disorder, which still causes much unnecessary troubles. I'm not saying it's healthy or anything, but that's just how he is.
That is what his "courts" have always been saying as well and with it they let him stay "himself" and therefore still suffering from the disorder... Nobody dares to tell it to him like it is... they get fired or banished right away. And prince? he just continuous being the control freak, forgets about his mistakes, doesn't learn from them and then makes them again... I'm not so highly disturbed by his work ethic that I can't enjoy the music.
Me neither, however 20$ for one song does take away a lot of the potential enjoyment. Jyts like talking about 'banished ones' on a record and then putting it into practice. That is the kind of 'game' I have no admirance for. I'm not so concerned about his long standing way of working that I'm losing sleep over it.

No, me & Nina is an artist/fan relationship, just like you and P. And just like me and P. Maybe in the end none of us can truly separate the man from the music. Maybe the real issue is the willingness to criticize or praise the MAN @ any given time, even when the subject @ hand is simply about the MUSIC.
Good point. I admit that it is hard to separate the two, but this discussion wasn't about the song Thieves in the temple. It was about what you later said about fans not being able to separate the two. I think it is imperative for a fan to be able to make the difference. If a fan can't do that he runs the risk that the praisal turns into idolatry (just look at some of the 'fams'), or the criticsm into hatred (just look at some of the 'naysayers')... all too easily... As for me... Since I don't know him personally, I am not inclined to care about him personally. However, since I love most of his music, I am saddened that it suffers, because he is not letting ANYBODY come close to him to tell him like it is... let alone that he would EVER listen to it...he just needs control, control, control... even when he CAN'T control... And it's REALLY funny that ANYONE who thinks there's an ounce of humanity in him is automatically labeled a blind, ass kissing fanatic. Everything is black & white, this or that, no gray area in this mutha & everybody's judging everybody - how fucking appropriate... Damn! I might have to propose to Cali! That was tight

Jeeezus. A thread jacking just because Calhoun says she loves this site's namesake. That's just rifuckindiculous. Calhoun is obviously not a newbie, she knows about the man's flaws just like any other non-newbie.
There ARE 4 threads given to everybody to start per day, if people want to talk about how much the man has screwed up, and how he's supposedly the devil incarnate nobody is stopping anyone from starting that type of thread - those threads are easy to find and numerous. Why the fuck can't she start a single thread about WHY she loves the guy on Prince.org, and WHY is it such a bad thing that she does love the guy? Believe it or not, we all have flaws, some are flawed deeply - and these people are still loved by others.  Isn't that amaaazing?
