New Longtime Prince associate wants to rename Chanhassen streets in his honor A longtime associate and a neighbor would need state and city approval to see their vision through. By Katy Read Star Tribune
CARLOS GONZALEZ โข CGONZALEZ@STARTRIBUNE.COM Mark Webster, shown at Hwy. 5 and Audubon Road, now works as a security guard at the Prince museum at Paisley Park.
As a close friend of a close friend of Prince, Mark Webster watched the musician grow from a strangely dressed local kid playing small Minneapolis clubs in the 1970s to a glamorous megastar filling huge venues, where Webster would have VIP seating, mingle with celebrities and get down at after-concert parties.

I'm confused about renaming Hwy 5. How do they rename it just for the stretch outside PP? Audubon makes more sense. I hope when they finish the housing complex on Galpin they create some tribute to Prince there. Last time I drove by there the guard house was still up. Seems that will be the last vestige of Prince to go. Paisley Park is in your heart

We were there recently and could not find the guard house.
The new housing stock looks cheap though it is pricey. It is across the street from a much more
elegant subdivision, Longacres.
The area is bare, all the trees knocked down...
Lots of big machinery grading . Looks like they're getting ready for Phase 2; more cheap-looking houses. I think for a town like Chanhassen, which is well-off, there could have been higher standards in place. |

They can totally rename Highway 5 just for the stretch through Chanhassen. It'd be like the Kennedy or Dan Ryan Expressways in Chicago, which are simply local names for those sections of the interstate.
We donโt mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Yeah it's very common to name stretches of road. He deserves it. |

Yeah, it's not that unusual. There's a Martin Luther King Blvd or Highway in most major cities somewhere, for a stretch. Or a Centennial Interstate, etc.
To name part of Hwy 5 for Prince is totally doable. And it should be.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

What happens when a highway is renamed is that a commemorative sign goes up. It doesn't change the name of the highway or the addresses on it. It's an honorarium.
I think it makes more sense to rename Highway 5 than Audubon, since more people will see the signs on the highway. Plus, the folks on Audubon are pretty much against it.

I toured a couple of the houses. They're quite nice on the inside. Out of my price range though! I know eventually there will be a path that connects this development to Lake Ann. I'd be nice if they could do some Prince rememberence there.

Ah I didn't know that. I don't see it happening though.

Audubon in Chan is mostly businesses (a few residentials down by Lyman). Not sure why the businesses would care. It's not like Audubon is some great name or anything.

The homes are too close together and the finishes are on the cheap side. Landscaping will take years to mature; they could have saved a tree or two.
