Why aren't more people talking about love and sex?

No really...Love and Sex (SOTT Version) has broken into my number one rotation playlist. This song is just...wow a mix of adore, beautiful ones, crucial this song is incredible! Playing on the pods and there are so many layers. Well produced and a sure hit if he released with SOTT. Suprised he didn't bring it back in a follow up album like D&P. Would be cool to hear if there were a Sheila E version floating out there. Is this just me or do you all like love and sex?

Throw on some headphones..here are the lyrics. Enjoy!

Look at us
Two children in a grownup world
Playing around with love and sex
Look at you
Out of control
So in love with a crazy girl
Claiming that I have you under some kind of hex
Look at me
Trying my best to seduce you when I know you're already mine
Surely, surely in a grownup world
You and I, in a grownup world, you and I
Can find a better use of our time
Our time

Love and sex
An emotional merry-go-round
It’s like riding on a Ferris Wheel upside down
Every time i see you my heart just pounds
And my legs go weak
It's hard to speak
All I can say is I'm under your hex
All I wanna do is you
Love and sex

Check me out
A little bit forward but you know I be speaking my mind
You are the only thing I wanna do with my time
Girls should be girls
But in a grownup world
Who wants to be nonchalant
In other words, I know what I want

Love and sex
An emotional merry-go-round
It’s like riding on a Ferris Wheel upside down
Every time I see you my heart just pounds
And my legs go weak
It's so hard to speak
All I can say is I'm under your hex
All I wanna do is you
Love and sex

Baby, baby, baby, baby you know what I want
Love and sex
An emotional merry-go-round
It's like riding on a Ferris Wheel upside down
Every time I see you my heart just pounds
And my legs go weak
It's so hard to speak
(All I can say)
All i can say is I'm under your hex
All I wanna do is you
Love and sex
An emotional merry-go-round
It's like riding on a Ferris Wheel upside down
Every time I see you my heart just pounds
And my legs go weak
(I said my legs go weak)
It's so hard to speak
All I can say is I’m under your hex
Love and sex

It is certainly a highlight for me.

It took a little time getting used to as I was expecting the faster more pop version of the song as sung by Sheila.

I love the little guitar solo in the Sheila version and do miss that. However this version has the great power chords and multi layered vocals.

Yea I think it is a underrated song. It was the first song on disc 1 of the vault tracks I really liked on first listen. Must be my pop music side that perked up.

Definately the best song of the (to me) unknown vault tracks.

I love the melody, it's all around a great song although I'm not in love with lyrics, they seem a little generic.

Brings me back to why I fell in love with his music
Eye wanna make Love to U,
2 times maybe 3,
If u want to go 4 or 5,
Baby that's alright with me,
eye will be your little baby,
eye can be your big strong man....

I love it. Only negative is that it ends so abruptly.

I thought the same thing.

For me, Love and Sex was one of the biggest highlights of SOTT:SD. I'm so glad that even amongst all the amazing material that I've loved for years I was still able to discover something new and fresh.

Another highlight was 'Can I Play With U?', which despite circulating for ages I never really bother listening to. I think the sound quality used to put me off so I never really gave it a chance.

Where can I find the Sheila version? Would have loved to give that one a listen. And why wouldn't she or Prince have released it? Its a special song...maybe just a little simple but nothing wrong with that. Definitely would have been something I would have given to a girl in a mix tape back in high school HAD it been released.

Sheila’s version is almost a different song (production wise at least). Having heard her version first and not being a big fan of it, the Prince version hasn’t done anything for me yet. Maybe I need to listen to it a few mores times!

Yeah, the Sheila version is meh. This one is worse. Matter of taste I guess.

Re: why not more talk, because it's a bit plodding and cluttered. I think it's a great song, and the Sheila version in particular is really onto something, but the P version is so off-kilter and slow that it becoes hard to keep it in mind, even when it's playing.

Been playing the hell out this one lately. Mainly his vocals are so damn good. Eapecially second verse when he is double laying the vocals "I BE SPEAKING MY MIND!!" part stays with me even after the song is over and makes me wanna play it again. I think he tried to make it sound more pop for Sheila but takes away the sexiness the original had. Also probably would have sounded dated as the Sheila E album came out a year before New Jack Swing was about to take over.

Where can I find this Sheila version? would love to hear it and compare...agreed on that part where he double lays the word...it has radio hit written all over it and probably not something Prince would release during SOTT as I don't think it would fit in the album but surprised he didn't release it with Diamonds and Pearls where he was going more toward that sort of sound.

I'm not a trained musician - but is this one of the oddest time signatures in a prince song? It's almost like 6/4, or he's not sure how to get back from the chorus to the verse... I love it so much though - Spotify says it's my most played song in 2020 lol.
