I possibly passed by prince in 2003

I was downtown Toronto and when I walked by flow 93 on Yonge street, I passed by a guy with sunglasses, heels and a dark red shirt and did a double take. I seriously wondered if it was prince but didn’t want to act silly in the process and thought maybe it’s not him cause he had no security around. Sure enough a few months later, I heard he was living in Toronto, so maybe, maybe not. I did finally see him on tour in 2011

I once walked right by Prince at Paisley Park and didn't notice until we had passed shoulder to shoulder (we were walking in opposite directions from opposite ends of the concert hall). No one else was walking at the same time. I did a double take and watched him continue walking.

It was because Victor Wooten and bro were on stage, and I was looking sideways at what they were doing with my jaw dropped.

Sounds like we had similar experiences, except that you got to go to paisley park, lucky you! Would love to see it someday

He was right behind (yes, behind) us at the Indigo2 aftershow on Sept. 10, 2007. My wife didn't notice him until I mentioned him to her ("Hey, Prince is right next to us."). That was fun.

I was there too. Didn't get to speak to him (or even see him), though.

Prince passed by me in 2002.

Oberhausen or Stuttgart I recall.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Prince walked directly between my sister and me in 2002 during a soundcheck for One Nite Alone in Detroit.

A group of us had lined up in the orchestra pit area in front of the stage, and we heard Prince's voice calling out instructions to the sound/light people. We didn't know where the voice was coming from.

Turns out, he was sitting in the darkened seats in the audience, and then when he was done he walked down the center aisle and up to the stage.

My sister and I were only about a foot apart, but Prince snuck through without even nudging us. His security was a lot larger and had to nudge my sister and I apart quite a bit LOL.

I saw Prince - totally unexpected - in early 1989 at Tokyo's Narita Airport. A huge group of people and journalists were crowded around an exit gate. As I walked up to invesgigate Prince emerged in full Lovesexy relagia and was quickly whisked away by handlers/bodyguards, etc. It was a total shock as I was a huge Pricnce fan at the time and knew he was coming to Japan...but had no idea he'd be at the airport the same time I was... I didn't see the Lovesexy show but did see the Nude Tour show the next year...

I had a similar experience during Welcome 2 America tour LA. I know he like driving golf carts so after the concert was over I happened to be near the backstage area (but behind) and I saw from far away someone driving a golf cart bu I wasnt sure.

However fast forward, I did get a chance to meet him. I knew Andy Allo from LA open mic days and she messaged me if I could setup a private area for her and P to watch a poetry open mic that i volunteered at and where Andy used to frequent before she met him. No one in the audience knew that he was a few feet above in the soundstage overlooking the stage (it's a 99 seat theatre but we pack like 200 plus every week). He came in throught the back. I greeted him first and welcomed him to our place and the venue co founders were there, like 5 folks. One of them was was so excited he told Prince "I wanna thank you cause your music was the soundtrack to my life!"...and in a very Prince answer type way he responded back with "I know....mine too"

He stayed for most of the night and we told the audience afterwards that P was sittin a few feet above and behind them and they thought we were pulling their legs.

"You know, this is funky but I wish he'd play like he used to, old scragglyhead son of a...*smack* OOH!"

Hey we have such similar names! That’s a cool experience you guys had, and funny enough I was involved with poetry open mics too before quarantine hit. Shared poems and songs(including one I wrote about prince with his song titles in them
hehe) and made friends with a lot of writers and supported their work. That’s awesome prince got to go to one like a regular person

Ya it was pretty cool! He was very chill. I asked him if he wanted water or tea since we had a small kitchen downstairs and he politely declined. Just him and Andy...and Raul was in parked in the back. He was very lowkey. I always told folks that he smelled like tomorrow...because I never knew what the smell was lol

Which poetry scene are you from?

The closest I came to 'meeting Prince' was a photo taken with Jellybean Johnson at a FDeluxe gig, LOL! Or shaking hands with Nile Rodgers at North Sea Jazz Festival. lol I envy you guys!

I did once pass George Clinton though at Schiphol Airport (near Amsterdam). He was seated on one of those 'golf' carts they use at airports, all of a sudden I realised who he was and yelled "Hey George!!" and waved at him. George was looking tired/stoned as hell, but nevertheless he smiled at me and put his thumb up. Made my day! cool

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time!

He was practically in my lap at the first Rio aftershow the weekend after his Super Bowl appearance.

With art bar poetry series, longest running one since the early 90s, but they’re not holding any events right now due to covid
