Best book on Prince on the 90s and beyond Are there any good books on Prince from the 90s onwards? I've read Matt Horne, but I found his discussion of 90s Prince disappointing. I want to know about what was actually going on in the Prince world not why the author doesn't like "Diamonds and Pearls" all that much. |

Someone else will better answer your question. Books from Prince's photographers have some great information and insights. I'm guessing you are looking for more of a straight biography presentation.
As a side note, I'm sure you've noticed that there are strong opinions around here when it comes to biographers. As far as future releases go, there should be a 90's-focused book by Alex Hahn.

I’ve not read it yet but I have this one lined up to read: ‘The Gold Experience: Prince in the 90s’, by Jim Walsh |

Make that ‘Gold Experience’ (no ‘The’) |

I guess one of the best ways to get insights into this period of Prince's life might just be to listen to all of the podcast interviews with those that worked with him during that period. There are a lot available now. |

Steve Parke's book is excellent and full of interesting vignettes (some sad, some funny). Of all the 90s books, I felt it gave a clearer picture of the man.
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me. |

Yay...that makes two votes already for awesome artist and photographer Steve Parke! Proud to say he's from my neck of the woods (Baltimore area). He introduced P to earcuffs. P loved them when he saw them. Steve's were from a friend who has a booth at the Maryland Rennaisance Festival. : )
Also highly recommend Afshin Shahidi's book.

Not fully related, but it's surprising how many of the details in these books that came out in the 90's turned out to be pretty close to accurate. They seemed so sensationalistic at the time. |

I also really like the way personalities come out in the stories of the two working together. So happy to hear how much you're enjoying it!

Have you read Mayte's book? No, but I have it and will read it next. I’ve heard lots of good things. I was just hoping for something a bit like Per Nilsen’s book to read alongside it. |

I ordered the jim Walsh one
Hope it's not just endless hype and praise for that period
I like 90s prince but in many ways it's his big dumb fun period, with some exceptions of course
But it also just presents a more straightforward side of him
Which has its merits
So I'd like to read some proper evaluations of the later years |

I guess I read so much critical commentary rubbishing this period that I'd really enjoy a bit of hype and praise for a change. |
