Now, more than ever, I started to like

'It''

and

''U Got The Look''

And that thanks to the remastering.

''It'' is such an under rated wonderful song...

(could also be that I spend $$ on a splendid Sehnheizer headphones)

My god, that sound imroved soooo much !

-

So ''It'' and ''U Got The Look'' are on repeat,

together with ''ICNTTPOYourMan''.

-

Same thing happened to me with Slow Love. Was never a huge fan of this song. But hearing it on here with some quality phones...its simply dreamy.

This album remaster plus inclusion of singles has been greatly desired and it has certainly increased my appreciation of the recording. The album set has perpetually been a grower for me throughout my initial discovery and my love of favorites from here remain strong.

I don't notice any improvement with the remastered version but it's because of my cheap Sony headphones.

Quite expensive, 395 EURO. (It's the Sennheiser HD 660s)

But damn worth every fucking penny.

But don't get fooled by expensive headphones.

-

The truth is - and this is quite unbelievable - I had a 19 EURO headphone (Philips SHL5005/00) for years ! And it was just the best quality ever. Seriously.

The soundquality was just super good ! Really good.

The only thing was that is was cheaply executed in bad palstic, and the chord and plug often had to be repaired (tape, glue, whatever, you know). Anyway, as long as it was worked i was happy.

Hell I even broke it in two pieces one day, and kept using it for a year and a half put together with gaffers stage tape. But after a while my hair got stuck in the tape... lol, and the sound of the left side dropped.

So I wanted to invest in 'good sound', and a nicer looking headphones, and it happened to be this expensive model.

Whatever, couldn't go on holidays with this fucking Covid anyway, so spend my sweet money on that. wink

You could try the Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones, you can get them around 135 euro and they have a very good reputation.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I have the M50xs and they are indeed fantastic, especially for that price. They are not the be-all-end-all of headphones but there is a very good reason why you see them in pretty much any video of musicians recording things in a studio or mixing. I use them as my general recording/mixing/leisure set of cans

many of the bootlegs sound better than the remastered outtakes .. on the 1999 deluxe someone turned the bass up on all the new mixes too .. its like somebody said .. prince didn't have enough bass before so we will just fix that a little .. prince mix is supposed to pop thru your speakers .. not give you warm fuzzy soft rawk bass tones .. yeesh .. i wish at least they wouldn't mess with the outtakes but no .. everything needs to be flattened so you can make ur stoopid playlists on yr phone with cardi b and prince and not change the volume .. and jesus .. why would anyone ever remaster the vinyl .. its baffling .. its like trying to brighten up dorothy parker or taking the distortion off his voice on girlfriend .. leave it the fuk alone plzzzz

Flattened? You are talking as if this was a loudness war casuality when it is the complete opposite. Not to pry but what gear are you listening on?

While we are on the subject of headphones, surprisingly the best pair of headphones I have ever used and am still using are my playstation gamer headphones. They cost around $20-30 but the sound is really good.I have definitely noticed different vocals and Instruments on the remastered SOTT set with them on.

Antoher thing... the Beats headphones by Dre... I tried 'm - no way.

Like they're are only made to pump up the weak production for the kind music I don't like that much anyways. wink

If you listen to SOTT through Dre's Beats, it's as being on very bad mecidine.

That's at least how it sounds to me.

I don't need no inforcement and blown up sound.

The guy who sold me my headphones said, ''no one has the same pair of ears or hears the same thing.'' So it's tricky to recommend anything to other people before they even tried them.

Prince music, or better funk mucis (for me) needs a sound that keeps that strict dry space intact.

Remember what Pricne said; ''funk is space'' (=what he said to Piepenbring).

And I care a lot for good dry sounds.

Always thought Prince's own production was dry and therefor so funky - at least the 80's Prince.

imh of course.

Well, yes and no. It's always been my favorite Prince album. Honestly, what the set has made me realize is that Prince crafted the correct 2 LP album from all these sessions. As much as I love the outtakes the only one I could possibly find a spot for wouldn't fit the length and that's "Crystal Ball". I mean there's some better tracks than "It" and "Slow Love" but those tracks fit the album so well I wouldn't change a thing other than to make it the 3 LP set Prince wanted.

In March of 1987 I was 16 going on 17 and SOTT was the Prince album I just couldn't stop playing. It instantly became my favorite Prince album. The sound, the look, you name it, I was hooked. Then at the end of 1987 when I caught wind of the Black Album and I had a crap ass bootleg which opened me up to what SOTT was orignially supposed to be with Dream Factory, Camille, and Crystal Ball.

So yes, my appreciation for Prince's greastest opus goes without question!
